Short Description:

The Department has an enterprise data warehouse currently begin migrated from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2012. 

 

Complete Description:

The Department is in need of a SQL developer to support;

1.              The migration of the existing environment to SQL 2012,

2.              Work with data warehouse analysts, policy and field staff to design, develop and implement data mart databases that are dimensionally modeled around line of business reporting/analytic needs.

3.              Work with DHS staff in the development of Analytics (SPSS and other statistical tools), structured reporting (e.g. trends, metrics) and ad-hoc reporting solutions.

4.              Design and development of data cubes

5.              Design and development of highly-automated ETL packages.  The Department predominately uses SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) with complex T-SQL as its ETL tool.  Data Sources include mainframe, IDMS (via extracts), other SQL Server databases, and Oracle.

6.              Assist Data Warehouse Analysts and other power users of the data warehouse in the design and development of complex queries spanning multiple tables and databases.

 

Tools used by DHS within the data warehouse environment include; SQL Server Reporting Services, Query Analyzer for direct query, DBXtra (visual query building tool), and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition.  Key day to day activities are;

1.              Design and development of dimensionally structured databases (Kimball Model) along with the development and implementation of Enterprise Conformed Dimensions,

2.              Development of highly-automated ETL packages in support of source data import and data mart database refresh.

3.              Development of complex T-SQL Queries including;

a.              Optimization of recurring Queries, and

b.              Converting queries into parameterized stored proceedures in support of reporting and analytic needs.

 

Extensive experience with SQL Server Integration Services along with Dimensional modeling skills is paramount for this position.
