Short Description:  PennDOT requires services of a Workstation Spec w/ advanced PC installation, support and troubleshooting experience to work w/ existing PennDOT IT team members to support county users, county stockpiles, other remote offices throughout the Commonwealth.

Resource will be headquartered in District 05 Office in Allentown, PA and provide support for all six counties and stockpiles (Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Schuylkill).


PennDOT requires the services of a Workstation Specialist with advanced PC installation, support and troubleshooting experience to work with existing PennDOT IT team members to support county users, county stockpiles, and other remote offices throughout the Commonwealth. The Workstation Specialist will be acting as the Primary support role for supporting and ensuring garage maintenance staff has functional laptops and software to perform diagnostic activity on multiple manufacturers’ fleet equipment. The Workstation Specialist will be responsible for assisting PennDOT staff by supporting hardware and software installation and troubleshooting services throughout District 5. Candidate must possess the ability to install and configure PC hardware, peripherals, and software in both a network (primarily) and stand-alone environments. The ability to use diagnostic software is required. The ability to read, understand and follow technical manuals, schematics, and processes in the English language is required. The ability to assemble and support a microcomputer system and multifunction printers, as well as install Cat5e and/or Cat6 cable runs and perform cable terminations is required. Specific knowledge required in LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, Remedy, MS Windows., RDP, and SCCM. The resource may also be required to document technical processes. Strong team leadership, customer service skills, and a high level of attention to detail are also required.

Although the primary focus of this position is to support for the counties, the Workstation Specialist will also be required to support all other areas of PennDOT including all units throughout the District Office, Traffic Management Center, Construction Field Sites, Driver License Centers, and Welcome Centers, should the need arise.

**Please be advised that this positions will require travel throughout The Commonwealth to support various PennDOT locations. Resource will be headquartered in District 05 Office in Allentown and provide support for all six counties and stockpiles (Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Schuylkill). Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and use their personal vehicle to travel to and from sites, as well as transport computer equipment such as computers, monitors, and printers. Candidates must be comfortable traveling to various parts of the state and working around active construction sites as well as large fleet equipment. Occasional travel to other districts and/or overnight travel for training may be required. PennDOT will cover expenses falling within The Commonwealth’s Expense Reimbursement Guidelines and Policies. Please discuss the travel requirements with each candidate prior to submission to ensure they are willing and able to meet PennDOT’s expectations.**

Specific duties for the position include:
1. Garage Diagnostics Software
A. Ensures mobile devices and adapters are kept current with latest patches, drivers, firmware, and software updates as well as routinely monitoring devices to ensure they are being connected to the LAN and receiving updates.
B. Masters the troubleshooting procedures for the garage diagnostic software and adapters.

2. County Stockpile deployments and support
A. Deploy VPN Router, PCs, and multifunctional printing devices to county stockpile sites
B. Training and support users that report to those locations

3. District Traffic Management and/or Incident Command Center.
A. Provides network support for the District Traffic Management and/or Incident Command Center.
B. Responsible for assisting in the support of a series of remote traffic management equipment such as video cameras, dynamic and variable message signs, and highway advisory radios that operate on various types of communications including IP on public, private, and cellular networks, as well as dial-up.

4. Telecommunications
A. Supporting telecommunication equipment and services, to include wiring, analog, VoIP sets, audio and video conference equipment, web conferencing, and unified communications
B. Manages and configures voice mailboxes and menus on premise voice messaging equipment and carrier-provided services.

5. Installs computer system hardware, software, and related peripherals in accordance with departmental procedures and technical manuals.
A. Installs and configures PC hardware and peripherals (printers, modems, mice, tape drives, CD-ROMS, video cards) to meet user requirements.
B. Installs and troubleshoots Cisco VPN routers.
C. Connects/disconnects PCs and printers to the network. Attaches network cables at switch and PC or printer.
D. Assigns workstation names for PCs being added to the network using Active Directory.
E. Installs related software (Windows, applications, network drivers) needed for proper functioning of the complete system and all interconnected devices.
F. Configures CISCO AnyConnect VPN software on non-networked PCs.
G. Upgrades or repairs existing PC equipment by replacing or adding memory, floppy disk drives, hard drives, motherboards, and I/O cards as required.
H. Installs and tests images for department PCs.
I. Planning, schedule, and track hardware deployments.
J. Train end user on use of newly deployed equipment.
K. Identify and recommend changes for efficiency gains.

6. Provide all required information to assure a complete and accurate equipment inventory.
A. Unpacks/packs computer equipment.
B. Receives, checks in, and inventories equipment. Reports all inventory transfers.
C. Records inventory information and updates Remedy Asset Management System.
D. Runs reports from Remedy Asset Management System.
E. Coordinate equipment deliveries and pickups with PennDOT staff.

7. Provides direct support for workstation requests and issues.
A. Responds to workstation related trouble calls both on-site and remotely.
B. Provide PC related support to end users via telephone and e-mail.
C. Process requests for LAN user accounts.
D. Troubleshoots individual PC problems resulting from SCCM pushes.
E. Run SCCM reports and monitor workstations for compliance
F. Creates and updates Remedy tickets.

8. If needed, document technical processes and/or update existing documentation.
