The goal of this project was to make a tool, which converted roaming agreement file of GSM operators into Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) file for quickly updating and retrieving information from the database.
This roaming agreement file known as AA14 allowed the two different GSM operators to transfer call charge data and subscription information back and forth as their customers roamed in and out of other networks. It dealt with cellular customers and enabled them to make and receive voice calls, send and receive data and access other services automatically when traveling outside the geographical coverage area of the Home Public Mobile Network (HPMN), by means of using a Visited Public Mobile Network (VPMN).
The AA14 document used to contain the information in DOC format which had many disadvantages such as security vulnerabilities and speed of accessing etc. It was proposed to change the DOC format to XML format, which was more advantageous, and to comply with GSM Roaming Agreement Exchange (RAEX) standards.

GSM Operators maximise their global footprint by offering roaming services with suitable roaming partners on reasonable terms. It was a challenging process for operators to contact potential partners and to persuade them to fit into their testing schedule. Potential roaming partners were identified and contacted on behalf of the client to negotiate a roaming agreement based on the client’s deviations from the standard roaming agreement. After successful negotiations, the two operators would sign-off and test SIM cards were exchanged to begin testing and to launch roaming services.
Responsibilities:
- Participated in performing in-depth analysis to develop business, identify new opportunities and provide recommendations to senior management for the execution of strategic business objectives.
- Identified suitable roaming partners and exchanged info-pack based on priority list of networks or countries.
- Exchanged and negotiated AA-12 and AA-13 documents between the operators, ensuring the signed agreement matched the terms and conditions agreed during the negotiations process.
- Assisted development team with test scenarios, test plan, test conditions and test cases to be used in testing based on business requirements, technical specifications and or product knowledge.
- Exchanged test SIM cards between both operators after countersignatures were verified.
- Performed periodic updates and follow-up on the status of all open negotiations via email.
- Analyzed geographic data to determine market penetration and target selections with prospective roaming partners.
- Interacted with subject-matter experts and stakeholders to identify and analyze business processes, end user behavior and expectations.
