Responsibilities:

  • Brought on a contract resource for assistance with the site closing at the end of September. Responsible for creating and executing a project plan for aligning, preparing and staging the server environment for shipping to its new home and final destination. The planning phase involved taking an inventory of server both physical and virtual, determining what site they would be relocated at and scheduling a maintenance window for performing the move if need with the business owner. Two new VMware virtual environments need to be built out and this included a vCenter Server and ESXi hosts. Migration planning was centered around the storage arrays of which two where on the same Fabric and one was not. Systems on shared storage could be moved via vMotion while those not on the Fabric needed to be moved utilizing VMware Standalone Converter. Storage need to be upgraded by adding Storage Tray
  • Enclosures to their EVA Storage Arrays. The firmware on the arrays along with the disks needed to be upgrades as well. The servers and hosts were housed on HP C7000 Blade Enclosures. The Onboard Administrators along with the blades received firmware and driver upgrades where applicable. Other duties included storage administration and the build out of new VM templates. Migrated VM’s received a hardware and VMware Tools upgrade and had their NICs upgraded to VMXNET3 when needed. Guests were re-IP’d when need for the VLANs for each site.
