SUMMARY:

  • I'm an IT technician who is looking to relocate from Southern California into the San Antonio, TX area. The cost of living and job market here has become hard to work with and I need the next step to further my career.
  • Although not a Windows admin by trade, I'm reasonably proficient in the management of Windows XP/7 endpoints and I have some earlier experience with 2003/2008 server.
  • I haven't gotten to play with 2012 too much, although I understand Hyper - V deployments and have configured a few for customers.
  • I've worked with Debian/Ubuntu and CentOS (Red Hat's open source distro) for a while now. I'm good with local administration as well as 'server' based configurations.
  • I can manage users and services and although I'm not a security person by trade, I can handle the basics such as configuring IPTables and managing the Red Hat firewall, as well as basics such as configuring DAC security (filesystem security) and managing installation packages. I'm not super skilled with SELinux config, however.
  • Although much of it was learned through configuring Cisco routers/switch/firewalls, I have a good understanding of networking technologies in general.
  • Configuring DHCP/DNS services, NAT, IP/TCP setup, network security/firewalling. I'm reasonably good with VPN technology as well, but I can't say it's my forte' exactly. I've worked with SDN in the form of the OpenDaylight controller Helium as well (XSQL queries, configuring flow tables, etc...) but I haven't had the chance yet to work with any commercial deployments.
  • I'm A+ certified and have extensive knowledge of desktop, laptop and enterprise (Server/Storage/Networking) hardware. I've been repairing PC's and laptops my entire career.
  • IBM P/X-Series servers, Sun/Oracle SPARC and X-series machines, Dell PowerEdge/M1000E servers, HP Proliant/Blade Center systems, StorEdge arrays, Equallogic and Compellant storage systems, Cisco routers/switches/firewalls, HP Procurve networking equipment are just some of what I've worked with. This includes everything from configuring/racking/cabling to low level repair.
  • Unlike some in my profession, I've made sure to avoid becoming anti-social. I love to work with a dedicated team who is enjoying what they do. I also greatly enjoy interaction with customers and have provided customer support on many occasions. Customers are the most important thing after all. Without them, there is no business. I'm not a business major but I understand the basic tenents of business and understand having a budget and a bottom line.
  • My development skills are not quite professional grade just yet. I have some experience with Python (Cpython) and HTML/CSS but I can't say I'm at the level of a 'programmer' at this point. I include this here for completeness and as a reference point as I am continuously working on my own to improve my skills in coding and web technologies.
