WORK EXPERIENCE:
Confidential, CA
Programmer Analyst
Responsibilities:
- As a part of the IT department, I played a very important role in converting our other systems to Oracle Applications. During my time at the Confidential, the company grew from $300 Million to $2 Billion in revenue by acquiring over 15 companies, which were eventually brought into Oracle. I was responsible for the conversion of shipping documents, Purchase Order Reports, Invoice Reports, and Statements. In addition to this, I modified several existing custom reports, created new custom reports, and wrote PL/SQL code to successfully implement the business logic of these new companies into Oracle Applications 11i.
- I provided support to the user community to meet their business requirements, designed changes to existing Oracle Applications, gathered information, designing solutions, tested solutions and obtained user approvals. Selected projects include:
- The 11i Upgrade was my first project after joining the company. The Confidential (called Sybron Dental Specialties at the time) upgraded to 11i. The business model of the company required over 100 Oracle custom reports, but there was no Oracle consultant. I and the other three programmers upgraded all these reports and other custom objects by ourselves. The Pick-Release program included some custom code. After the go-live, we faced a major problem in that the Pick-Release program was not completing. The IT manager created a service request (SR) of Severity 1. After consulting with Oracle, we were informed that there was no problem with the Oracle component of the program and that the problem must be in our custom code. The manger and one senior programmer worked overnight attempting to solve the problem but were not able to. The project had a cost of over one million dollars and was about to be rolled back due to this issue. Early in the morning, I was called into the office to consult about the program. As I was looking through the program, I noticed that one join condition was improper, which had been overlooked by everyone else on the team. I fixed the issue, and the Pick-Release program was able to finish in less than a second. After that, I was recognized as a valuable troubleshooter and the PLSQL tuner of the group.
- After the 11i Upgrade in 2002, the company started gradually to convert the non-Oracle applications of other subsidiary companies into Oracle Application. The next was the Kerr conversion, which was a conversion from AS/400 to Oracle. I completed the Routing conversion, BOM conversion, On-Hand conversion, price list conversion, etc. One issue I faced with most of these conversions was junk characters at the end of one or more columns, which was due to the way the data was extracted, and which the user did not know how to resolve. I solved the issue and successfully completed the conversions.
- I oversaw all Physical Inventory programs and was always on duty during all Physical Inventories. Within 3 years, I identified most possible user errors and modified our programs to be capable of handling these errors. After that, I provided on-call support for these programs. For the past many years, the users and the functional analyst have not needed any support at all for the programs.
- Oracle Receivables interface with third-party voice recognition service. This application has two parts. The first part was referred to as “the outbound,” and the second part was referred to as “the inbound.” In the outbound, we sent overdue collection files to a third party, which placed calls to customers. The results of these calls were sent back to us, and we interfaced the information to Oracle Receivables. The second part of the application was used by customers to pay their bills by credit card. They could call a toll-free number and, using their customer number and area code, were able to listen to their overdue bills and could make payments for their invoices. The third party used a web service to connect to our database and get updated dues information. The receipts were created at the same time in Oracle Receivables.
- Creation of corporate shipping solutions through Clippership. We were sending large shipments, consolidating internal sales orders, to inventory organizations in Europe. Hundreds of sales orders were consolidated into a single trip. I maintained this interface through my stay in the Company.
- R12 Upgrade was a big project for us. I and four other programmers modified more than three hundred custom programs. As well I completed the BOM conversion, On-Hand conversion etc.
- Two complete implementations of WMS. During these implementations, my duties were to enable shipping documents for WMS. I created shipping and receiving labels using Zebra Printers, OPTIO, and Oracle reports.
- At the Confidential, about half the business is conducted with trading partners. A major problem was the delay in the fulfillment and shipment of partial picked orders. Inventory managers wanted complete control over which orders were selected to be pick-released. We created a custom picking workbench. Based on the parameters provided by the managers, this workbench provided them with all the eligible orders, along with complete details of on-hand inventory, reservations and customer details. The program gave them the capability to select part of this set and send for pick-release as a batch. Successful implementation of this project helped improve our relationships with trading partners and preferred customers.
- Use of Oracle triggers and alerts for event reporting and automation of many manual procedures. I created SOX compliance alerts to report transfers and terminations of employees to all relevant officials.
- Extensively used OPTIO to develop emailing and faxing capabilities for documents to send to customers and vendors.
- Additionally, I did extensive work in the area of label printing and barcode design for mobile devices.
