  • Joining the Nationwide Personal Lines Services Service Advantage team was a great opportunity to hone my development skills, learn new technologies, gain better understanding of best practices applied within Nationwide's corporate environment. I learned to collaborate with teams spread out over several states, building team rapport and integrating new web applications with existing architecture while maintaining consistent look and feel as well as adapting to new software development techniques like Agile/SCRUM.
  • The objective was to be instrumental in the conversion of Nationwide's Windows based ColdFusion 8 CF8 Websites and apps to a Linux based ColdFusion 10 CF10 version.
  • My role included the successful initial adaptation of the current Windows websites Commercial, Workspace, Personal Lines, etc. to conform to the new Linux standard of file naming conventions, smoke test and cite any anomalies within the code or server set up that will inhibit the transfer to the new environment. I've been very successful in discovering adaptability issues, server set up issues and have passed on this knowledge so the new team can escape time consuming research and be able to handle these issues easily.
  • I learned a great deal during my short time on this project, not the least of which is the Des Moines Nationwide version of Agile Software development including SCRUM and communication techniques. I've become well versed in the use of SVN, and daily organization of tasks to fit within the 2 week iteration, discussing blockers, coordinating backlogs and future iteration work for myself and understanding other's roles regarding current/future iterations. I plan to learn more about the Test Driven Development TDD style of programming prevalent in the current ADC, which I did not receive exposure to while on this project.

  • The objective was to provide the ability to identify prospective or current customers as members of an Affinity Group during sales and servicing interactions. Affinity Groups are organizations, companies and clubs that promote Nationwide products and Nationwide provides discounts for those affiliations. The solution need include the enhancement of customer and agent facing applications to utilize a searchable Affinity Group list on the Agent Center Intranet used by exclusive and independent agents. It also provides the ability to tag quotes and policies with Affinity Group identifiers during sales and servicing interactions to indicate and apply benefits when applicable. I worked as part of a team that built this solution. This project was a fantastic opportunity to explore several different scripting, querying and coding languages including building and consuming Web Services built in ColdFusion. This gave me a better understanding of a variety of technologies- Ajax, JQuery, XML as well as the architecture behind separating the display from the business logic and data access layers. .
  • My role was to build an interactive form using Ajax, JQuery, XML, JavaScript and ColdFusion along with SQL queries to allow the agent to select Affinity Groups, search all companies within all categories Educational groups, Financial groups, etc. and then tag/identify the best benefit for the customer among multiple selections. The Affinity Picklist connected to a Webservice, displayed the organizations with a LOB, effective date and state criteria, saved to a SQL database table and retained choices throughout agent interaction with the main page. I utilized AJAX and Jquery for the bulk of interaction on the picklist, with a significant amount of ColdFusion and XML handling code.

The objective was to take an existing intranet website and update it with the new official corporate standard, simplify the user experience to be more intuitive and allow greater control over content for the client. The project included a wide variety of Security request forms, processing database requests and a major revision of the process flow for ease of use by the SRT's customers. From start to finish there were elicitation meetings, concept of design including wire-frames and process flows, bi-weekly progress meetings, along with proof of concept QA.
