Network Services Supervisor

Supervise five direct reports and two indirect reports responsible for Santee Cooper's voice and data network. Coordinate and direct the design, planning, development, implementation and operations of all telecommunications, wide area network WAN , local area network and wireless infrastructure. Coordinate and direct all fiber and copper installations throughout the network including data center cable design and implementation. Coordinate with IT Security Manager on the installation and operations of firewalls and internet proxy infrastructure. Coordinate and direct all subcontractors, including Cisco channel partners and cable installation teams. Coordinate with the System Services Supervisor to provide storage area network SAN and local area network LAN connections to Windows and UNIX servers in the main data center as well as the installation of SAN, WAN and LAN infrastructure in the corporate standby data center. Responsible for managing all leased WAN circuits and internet connections.

  • Data WAN network is comprised of 6 Cisco 6509 core switches in a VSS configuration single, stand-alone Cisco 6509 switch, a redundant pair of Cisco Nexus 5596 SAN switches, a variety of 250 Cisco switches and routers and CiscoWorks.
  • Voice network is Cisco Call Manager 8.5, Cisco Unity Express voice mail, Cisco Unified Call Center Express and 11 Toshiba key systems.
  • Project Manager of a three-year Cisco Voice-over-Internet protocol VoIP Implementation. Beginning in early 2007, a project to upgrade all Cisco infrastructures began. The project has resulted in the determination of system architecture, including a redundant, hierarchical core and the selection of a qualified vendor. The pre-implementation phase to determine a detailed scope-of-work was completed and the project implementation phase began in early 2011.

Accomplishments:

  • Maintained Voice and Data availability at 99.99 for 2007 through 2014.
  • Managed a 2.2M dollar VoIP implementation that was completed on time and under budget.
  • Managed a 280 AP wireless project roll-out in less than 2 months.
  • Integrated the Voice and WAN departments into a single, cohesive unit. With an aggressive cross-training program, the on-call responsibilities for each group were combined into a single on-call group.
  • Eliminated duplication of coverage in the Cisco SmartNet maintenance contract to allow for a 65K 25 annual O M savings.
  • Conducted feasibility study with State CIO office and Spirit Telecom on network wide roll-out of MPLS circuits
  • Led feasibility study for WAN optimization devices to allow a more efficient usage of WAN bandwidth to sites with T-1 or lower speeds. Proof of concept and initial test installation lead to a recommendation for a 21 site roll-out in Q1 2010.

Voice Services Supervisor

Supervised four direct reports responsible for Santee Cooper's voice network system. Managed all voice related projects including PBX installations, ancillary voice systems installation and interfaced with Santee Cooper construction personnel to ensure timely and accurate voice and cable support on all new construction. Directly responsible for all personnel related duties to include annual performance appraisals, employee professional/technical development training, time sheets and scheduling. Planned and implemented the combining of the Voice and WAN groups to include staffing and training needs and the transfer of day-to-day responsibilities for voice repairs and MACs to the Help Desk to allow for the successful formation of the Network Services group, winter 2007.

  • Maintained Voice systems availability at 99.99 for 5 years.
  • Contract negotiations resulted in improved services and/or significant cost savings in the areas of corporate pagers, cell phones, long distance/ toll-free calling and local service.
  • Major projects included: installation of new Mitel SX-2000 PBXs at Energy Control Center and large off-site conference center, installation of Speak Ease voice recognition system, on-going voice mail upgrade, View Mail roll-out and service contract re-negotiations.
  • Local line reconciliation project allowed company to inspect invoices of local services from over 20 telephone companies. The removal of unneeded lines or services resulted in an annual, re-accruing savings of over 71K per year 18 of departmental budget .

Senior MIS Analyst,

Senior technical resource responsible for maintenance, moves, adds, changes, and updates for a voice network for a state owned public utility company. Lead technical and training support to Voice Services department Assisted Mitel Communications Solution personnel with the planning and installation of twelve new SX2000 Light PBXs network upgrade. Supported System Communications personnel with the installation, testing and maintenance of microwave and fiber T-1s used to network PBXs and key systems. Worked with local telco and MCI personnel to resolve troubles with T-1, FX, OPX, DID, local, and long distance circuits. Completed repairs and MACs presented to Voice Services department through network based work management system. Planned, recommended and completed changes and adjustments to voice network to assure cost effective and reliable voice services to approximately 2000 users.
