Advanced Compression Implementation - Database

Confidential

Responsibilities:

  • Implemented Advanced Compression - Solution Presented at Oracle Open World 2015
  • During Phase 1 of Advanced Compression included implementing ILM, Advanced Compression and Space Reclaim. Size of undo was maintained as part of Month End Maintenance. This reduced the database size from 25 TB to 15TB.
  • ILM was implemented with co-ordination between DBA’s, Functional Teams and Informatica Technical Teams.
  • During Phase II implementation, Indexes on the tables currently being compressed were reviewed and Index compression implemented. This was expected to reduce space utilized by Indexes. Indexes were currently using 41% of the overall database size. Tables with small footprint constitute about 13% of the overall database size and growth rate has been stable. 6% of the current database size is utilized by tables, which have been compressed during Phase I of this project. Large tables have been further segregated into groups, and each group has been categorized into compression eligibility. Redefinition API/Alter Move for Advanced compression would be use to on tables to complete advanced compression) DBMS REDEFINITION- if the source table has PRIMARY Key associated). ALTER TABLE MOVE- if the source table does not have a primary key or the source table is less than 110GB in size

Oracle ERP Application Upgrade 11i to R12

Confidential

Responsibilities:

  • Integration between Oracle Applications and Tax Engines: Analysis of low performance of Invoice Validation Program in Oracle Applications R12.0.3 was a major effort with the client, Oracle Development, Oracle Product Support and Oracle Consulting. Analysis was done on tables, indexes, sql id, db dictionary data, RPC calls, Java Execution as well plsql execution. The strange part was that ASH analysis reveals 88% from total time as Java execution and only 9% sql execution. SQL only for 30% of activity. Rest was accounted by Java and PL/SQL. Ultimately, using my knowledge of integration between Oracle and Tax ware, it was identified that the performance issue was with the tax interface to calculate taxes during order entry, due to the number of times that the system calculates sales tax on an order, then on the advice of Tax ware we cleared this option. Also, another Issue was identified more on the tax ware side, whenever any invoice is having Zero dollar Value then it was not able to count the tax and spin for long time. This issue was worked with Tax ware team which fixed it on their system.

Integration Performance Tuning Expert

Oracle EBS, Oracle SOA and Legacy Systems, Confidenti

Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise Application Integration Performance Tuning between Oracle Applications, Oracle database, Oracle SOA framework and external Financial/non-financial systems.
  • Territory Online Planning Systems (TOPS) is the online task assignment and the incentive calculation system built using .Net Framework. It runs a daily program to load the changes of assignments for all the sales agents and also calculates the sales percentages at the end of every quarter. This load from EPM and few other legacy systems into Oracle takes a long time. The data transfer is primarily invocation of SOA Framework. The BPEL process uses Oracle Applications Adapter for EBS to integrate TOPS and Oracle. TOPS have a data mapping defined in Oracle CRM. All the sales agents are defined as Human Resources and several custom tables are built to manage the sales commissions. The refresh of this application integration was running for more than 24 hours. Over 11600 DISTINCT queries were executed by this program. Program is CPU bound because it needs to hard parse every query - are not using bind variables and literals are used instead. Also, there are some library cache lock wait events as well, from the same reason. A different concurrent manager was suggested for the program and Materialized view was recommended for the refresh. Several indexes on the custom tables were introduced. Received Oracle Consulting Vice President’s Honor for this Performance Improvement on both the Enterprise Applications.
  • JVM Crashes in Production: JServ sessions were taking 54% of the memory under high memory utilization. Memory footprint associated with JServ session was increasing over a period of time. 3 instances of JServ sessions were occupying about 30% of the total memory. Largest sized instance were from JServ sessions, taking about 10.22% of the total memory. This memory consumption was from custom java class with a total of 17,137 hash table entries persisted in memory by this custom class.
  • Transactions per Second Record Management: Created Transaction Score card for the management on Oracle Servers for active monitoring - Oracle Database 9i, 10g, 11g.
