  • Provide Oracle system support for approximately 45 development, test and production Oracle 9i and 10g instances on both Solaris and AIX servers. Participate in the migration of the Oracle 9i instances on Solaris to Oracle 10g on AIX. The migration includes setting up RMAN for backup and recovery and EMC SRDF (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility) for replication of the highly available outage management systems.
  • Review existing database environment and architect modifications that brought the database structures in line with Oracle’s OFA standards. Modify and write UNIX shell scripts to take advantage of the new architecture and to standardize the environment for ease of management.
  • Perform standard in-place upgrades as well as new builds with ensuing data migrations using the export and import utilities. Apply bug fixes and CPUs (Critical Patch Updates).

  • Provided development and production support for approximately 80 Oracle 9i and 10g instances including a 500 GB partitioned data warehouse. Activities included maintaining partitions, tuning the RDBMS and SQL and performing general DBA related tasks. Wrote and maintained shell and RMAN scripts to provide a variety of support functions for 9i and 10g databases.
  • Provided support for several teams developing in house applications or supporting third party vendor software. Provided minor troubleshooting of PL SQL code.
  • Wrote scripts to automate RMAN backups of databases and archive logs. Performed Oracle restores and recovery audits using RMAN backups.
  • Implemented comprehensive UNIX shell script to provide hot backups for 25 to 30 production and 40-50 test and development databases. Co-architected an archive management solution to backup archive logs to tape. Both scripts used Veritas Netbackup to copy the data to tape. Authored many incidental shell scripts for various database related needs and maintenance functions such as verifying successful backups, providing specialized exports of partitioned tables, backing up oracle configuration files and monitoring general health of database and file systems usage.
  • Successfully implemented UDB EEE v7.2 for conversion of the 500 GB data warehouse to UDB EEE. The migration project included setting up three AIX servers and configuring UDB EEE as a partitioned database on a single IBM SMP server. Provided instrumental support in setting up and configuring two additional servers to accommodate development and test environments for the project. Responsible for the ongoing tuning of the database including memory management as well as the installation of UDB run-time clients on the Solaris servers and Windows clients. Helped architect the current backup strategy for the data warehouse, which incorporated EMC TimeFinder and Business Continuance Volumes (BCV). Implemented IBM’s backup utility for two smaller UDB instances. Responsible for applying fixpaks to the UDB EEE database.
  • Successfully led the upgrade project to move the data warehouse from UDB v7.2 to v8.2. The project included interfacing with multiple client groups and managing the simultaneous upgrade of the DB2 client software on personal PCs as well as application servers.
  • Implemented and continued to support basic auditing on UDB as well as supported Oracle auditing functions. The auditing features were implemented for remediation of SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) security and accountability requirements.

  • Provided production Oracle database support for several call center databases the largest of which was about 50 GB. Support included normal monitoring and maintenance tasks as well as developing and implementing a disk / tape backup and recovery strategy.   • Provided support for four to five ongoing development efforts for various call center clients. Responsibilities included managing the technical development of an in house call center application. The management role required attendance at client facing meetings and acting as liaison between the non-technical client and our development team.
  • Responsible for AIX administration of several IBM servers. Tasks included upgrades to the AIX software and assisting in RS/6000 hardware upgrades. The production servers utilized HACMP to provide high availability.

  • Provided production database support and maintenance for Oracle 7.3.4 databases systems running on NT 4.0. Tasks included scheduling re-organizations of select schemas or entire databases, monitoring space usage and evaluating performance.
  • Provided development database support for several projects including an in house developed Supply Chain management application and a Service and Repair application. The projects used a variety of platforms, including Oracle 7.3.4, 8.0.5 and 8.1.5 on HP-UX 10.2 and 11, Solaris 6 and 7 and NT 4.0
  • Successfully managed the implementation of online backups for MLS systems. The project focused on the installation and maintenance of an in-house developed backup utility for production NT databases. The tasks included interacting with site support personnel in Europe, America, Australia and New Zealand to ensure the successful installation and scheduling of online backups using the product. The product was also ported to UNIX and used to backup development Oracle 7.3.4 databases on Solaris. The backups were scheduled with the NT scheduler on NT and with cron on UNIX.
  • Provided production and development support for a high availability HR application. The computing platform was NT 4.0 and Oracle 8.0.5. Administered the web interfaces using Oracle Application Server version 4.0.
  • Performed recovery operations on production NT databases using hot and cold backups and exports. The recoveries required restoring lost control files and corrupted data files. The recoveries used backup files created using an in house developed backup utility.
  • Installed and implemented Oracle Enterprise Manager V2.0 (OEM), including Diagnostic and Tuning packs, on NT clients. The installation used a centralized repository and Oracle Enterprise Manager’s scheduling capabilities to schedule backups using RMAN.
  • Tuned poorly performing databases by analyzing output from Quest SQLab Xpert as well as custom SQL scripts. Performance enhancements included applying changes to the Oracle environment and suggesting OS (UNIX) level parameter changes. Improvements were also made be analyzing explain plans and tracing user sessions to identify inefficient application SQL.
  • Spearheaded the design, installation and implementation of a Designer 2000 repository database.   • Applied Oracle patches and upgrades to development and production databases. Included support for applications during the testing phase prior to patching or upgrading production databases.
  • Designed and created a data warehouse database following Star Schema data warehouse design principles. Tasks included interfacing with PL/SQL developers to ensure that stored procedures implemented business requirements accurately, modifying database structures during development and implementing those changes in production.
  • Moved 50-60 GB database from SUN E3000 to SUN E10000 by copying cold backup of source data files to target machine and modifying the create control file script from a backup of the source database control file and recreating the database.
  • Performed index maintenance, including rebuilding indexes to defragment tablespaces and moving indexes to separate tablespaces or file systems to improve performance.
