Hired initialing to provide microbial control of tissue cultures. Expanded into inoculation and maintenance of tissue cultures (tumor, glial, squamous, lymphocyte cells).Cryogenic freezing of multiple generations of cell lines. Thawing cryogenic cell lines and doing viability counts. Radioactive tagging of tumor cells for tracing in cell flow cytometry.Operated steri-cell for separation of lymphocytes from whole blood. Theory was to infuse patients with autologous activated T-lymphocytes to fight tumor cells in body. Principal investigator also wanted to know the maximum number of generations of a cell line could be allowed to artificially reproduce before DNA errors present. I conducted assays independently measuring rate of substrate utilization as the temperature, pH, salinity, and concentrations were varied. In this position I first became familiar with using liquid nitrogen and laminar flow hoods.
