Detailed Job Description:

  • Serve as Middleware Platform Engineer to support engineering and day-to-day operations of Middleware platforms. Multiple Custom and COTS(commercial-off-the-shelf) applications run on these middleware platforms.
  • Common Middleware products running on Unix platform are WebLogic, Jboss, Tomcat, Apache, iPlanet and several COTS packages. Similarly on Windows platform we have several COTS packages running on Windows IIS Servers.
  • Middleware team members provide support for both Development and Sustain Application teams serving various Business Units. The Engineers will serve as Subject matter expert for the Middleware products used by Applications and assist in performance troubleshooting, Incident, Problem, Capacity and Change management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive technical implementation and support for IT projects that require Middleware Products. Installation and configuration to meeting application requirements.
  • Automate and delegate operational tasks. Identify and contribute to automation activities. Implement automation that will support regular operational activities – patching, health checks, application operational tasks etc.
  • Analyze and resolve Middleware Platform vulnerabilities by coordinating with impacted teams
  • Engineer and automate Standardization and Re-Platforming of Middleware Platforms to Standards as defined by the technology life cycle management
  • Follow DevOps principles and enable faster delivery of projects and operations activities. Work closely with Application teams to support DevOps initiatives. Implement DevOps practices using automation tools.
  • Assist in the creation of operational documentation per required deliverables within a project for Middleware components.
  • Work as a team. Assist and direct technical resources to accomplish project tasks ensuring effective utilization for Middleware products.
  • Manage and support Incident/Problem management for Applications. Assist in Remediation and Root Cause analysis of the incidents. Participate in defect triage and work with project team/vendors to resolve prioritized defect fixes. Identify repeating patterns and opportunities for automation.
  • Manage and support Change/Release management for Application. Review/approve Change Requests. Implement and Support Change/Release activities for Applications. Identify repeating patterns and opportunities for automation.
  • Identify and manage Operational issues/risks to closure and provide proper visibility to stakeholders
  • Participate in proof of concepts to assist in defining technology direction and enabling business strategy
  • Work closely with the Ally Architecture and Engineering team to ensure architectural middleware standards are met in projects
  • Work with Incident and Problem management teams to deliver broad-based, often complex, communication for internal and/or external audiences during planned or unplanned outages.
  • Ability to work autonomously, solving complex problems in an ambiguous environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies and ability to apply trends to software development
  • Extensive breadth of experience delivering complex technical projects that require middleware platform
  • Support Applications on a day-to-day basis in Incident/Problem/Change/Capacity/Performance management
  • Knowledge of the DevOps Principles and ITIL Best Practices
  • Excellent technical skills, experience in implementing and supporting Application Servers

  • Provides technical expertise in the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines that guide the design of technology solutions including architecting and implementing solutions requiring integration of multiple platforms, operating systems, and applications across the enterprise

Platform Technical Skills:

  • Extensive Experience with JBoss EAP, WebLogic, Tomcat, Apache, Nginx
  • Experience with J2EE, .NET, MS SQL, Oracle RDBMS
  • Active MQ, F5, OpenShift, Puppet, Ansible, UrbanCode uDeploy are nice-to-have.
  • Working knowledge of web services, web application development, multi-tier application systems
  • Unix Engineers need hands on experience with JBoss/Weblogic/Apache and advanced troubleshooting knowledge of moderately complex J2EE applications
  • Windows Engineers need hands on experience with Windows IIS and advanced troubleshooting knowledge of moderately complex .NET applications
  • Proven track record of implementing highly complex web products
  • Experience executing deployments and troubleshooting in a 24/7 production environment
  • Experience with Public Cloud - AWS. Terraform Scripts expertise in creating a wide range of AWS Resources like EC2, ALB, NLB, Lambda, S3 Buckets, Containers –Fargate/EKS, etc.
  • Extensive middleware SSL certificate management expertise
  • Knowledge of software configuration, source control, and build engineering, scripting and system administration is required.
