Provide Unix System
Administration, support and management for large scale enterprise Midtier
environment. Installs, configures, customizes, maintains and supports
enterprise midtier environment operating systems software and hardware.
Establishes, maintains and documents standards, procedures and documents
configurations. Conducts routine hardware and software servers audits.
Maintains production change control schedule and participates in change
controls. Implements operating system enhancements to improve the reliability
and performance of the system. Troubleshoots issues and provide resolutions.
Performs complex systems task. Debugs complex system / application / user
issues. Dissects complex issues, repairs and directs unsolved issues to be
resolved. Advises users on system usage. Configures and supports enterprise
midtier environment on capabilities, and relative performance differences
between processors. Help evaluate vendor proposals for purchases. Supports 24x7
on call rotation and Disaster Recovery for enterprise midtier environment.
Coordinates, schedules and installs Operating System (OS). Monitors and
maintains continuity with systems software licensing and maintenance
agreements. Provides hardware and software recommendations for planning and
budgeting. Ensures long term requirements of systems operations and
administration including overall information systems planning. Responsibilities
include Unix OS: Red Hat Linux, AIX, some Solaris. The environment includes
associated software infrastructure for these systems, including network
software, volume managers, file systems, backup utilities, monitoring and
performance measurement utilities and various middleware components. Duties
include making new environments production ready, resolving production
problems, developing standard operating procedures, and providing technical
support for contractors and in house development staff. This position rotates
on call responsibility with other staff members and provides second level
support for the help desk. Develop, maintain and support Disaster recovery
plans, scripts and vital records so that they are accurate to current
production.
Additional Job Details:
Familiar with Unix shell scripting, Oracle RAC, VMware virtualization, NIS,
NFS, Netapp, EMC storage, Client commodity hardware. Competencies: action
oriented, customer focus, problem solving and learning on the fly. Prefer BS
degree or equivalent work experience in large scale midtier environment in
System Administration Unix, Computer operations, programming or related field
in midtier OS, enterprise virtualization or monitoring environment. Knowledge
of midtier hardware: AIX, Client commodity, Sun Sparc and blade technology.
Ability to support and maintain 2 flavors of OS (RedHat Linux, AIX preferred or
Solaris). Ability to perform complex system task without assistance. Ability to
debug system / application or user issues. Ability to coordinate, schedule and
install OS. Ability to build and apply system patches. Preferred certification
RHCSA or RHCE. Knowledge of independent software vendor products, system
networking, EMC storage and Oracle RAC database, DASD and SAN, monitoring
product skills, Microsoft office skills, DNS, LDAP, NIS, NIM, NFS, SSH, RAID.
