Job Description:
The Database Administrator manages the production and non-production Microsoft SQL databases and/or Mainframe DB2 and technical environments, including the installation, support and maintenance of the databases and servers. It is responsible to ensure all database servers are backed up and tested to ensure that the business’s recovery objectives are met. This position troubleshoots SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends, and participates in regular server patching as required. The DBA is responsible for SQL Server monitoring and the deployment of change scripts provided by third party vendors, and will document the database environment in accordance with the divisions’ standards.
The DBA participates in the planning and responding of service outages. The DBA ensures optimal performance of the network, servers, and applications. Additionally, this position will participate in the review of design and development of software products and will work with the development team to advise, guide, optimize and monitor SQL revisions and new applications.
The candidate should have the following skill sets:
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or higher
OR IBM Mainframe DB2
Microsoft Internet Information Server 7.0 or higher
Have conducted Performance Tuning and Query
Optimization using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
Microsoft dotNET C# or dotNet Visual Basic
Microsoft SSRS/SSIS
Web Services
Creating and managing Stored Procedures
Index optimization
Creating SQL Views
Team Foundation Server
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
Managing and supporting Sql Server databases in a large production environment.
Building and configuring high availability SQL Servers and Databases using windows clustering
.
Establishing and monitoring databases using SQL Agent or other 3rd party tools.
Performing restore / recoveries on a periodic basis to insure the recoverability of the databases.
Strong experience in handling performance issues at server & database levels
Managing Load-Balancing of servers and databases
Experience with replication
Microsoft Certification on SQL Server administration
Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent work experience.
