Lead Rulebase consultant for the Virtual Enterprise Architecture VEA for FedEx. LEC C wanted to have an overall architecture that included a smart AI RuleBase feature that would handle all components of item parts needs ordering delivery etc. Virtual meant that all manufacturers vendors warehouses intermediate clients end-user clients and transportation companies would be on the same network. When an end-client needed a part they would look up the part along with industry-defined substitutes and/or their in-house defined substitutes and order the part. The system would then find that part in the virtual warehouse that was on-line enter the order have it sent to the transportation system FedEx of course and ship it to the end-user for immediate pickup the next day or so depending on transportation method selected. All of the intelligence was contained in several rulebases the end-user RBS the warehouse RBS the vendor RBS the transportation RBS etc. This was probably the first smart use of logistics in the world.

Domestic Pricing had to be extremely smart so that they could handle complaints on-line convert currency from around the world fill orders enter back-orders if needed etc. Also it had to handle about 8M on-line transactions per day in an era when that was deemed almost impossible. My job was to handle teaching Unix and C/C to FedEx personnel write code and work with manages who understood COBOL and mainframe projects not client-server architecture.

6/95 9/95

My job for Marketing was to set up within a three-month period a 100Mb back-plane remember 10Mb was standard for backing up all Unix computers being used to a high-capacity tape system. This included HP-UX Solaris Sun OS AIX and SCO Xenix systems. The systems went on-line within 10 weeks.
