Applicant started in January, 2006, as an intern through a program between HMS and Shepherd University. After being hired on as a full time employee in April, 2006, Applicant began application development for HMS Technologies. Since then he has risen from a Jr. Programmer to Lead Developer/Analyst, and held the titles of “HMS Senior Network Administrator,” “Lead Network Administrator” at the USCG, was in charge of the Motion Tablet PC repair department at HMS, Developer / Tester at the FDA, and is currently building an information system for the HMS Imaging Department.
Systems Analyst / Development March 2011 – Present
Applicant began work at the HMS Imaging Department designing and building the Serial Imaging Management System (SIMS). This system stores Image documents within a database, performs image manipulations such as deskew and binarize, can change file formats, has the ability to pull information from the images, and stores that information for verification by data entry personnel. SIMS went into production late December 2011 and is currently being maintained and updated solely by Mr. Hornich. SIMS is built on the .Net framework and consists of a website coded in C# and ASPX, a Silverlight application which relies on a WPF service for Database Access, and a console application which handles file manipulations. SIMS relies on MS SQL Server for its database functions. Every aspect of this system, from design, documentation, development, testing, server configuration, DB configuration, deployment and user training has been handled solely by Applicant and the application has been successfully running in production since January 2012.
Application Developer / QA Analyst
November 2008 – March 2011
Applicant started out as a QA analyst on the FDA-FMLS project and quickly moved onto application development in Java. He also administered the Dataflux Integration Server which is a COTS application that runs on a Solaris platform used for address validation and data standardization through SOAP requests. In this project, Applicant has worked with systems such as Oracle 9i and 10g, Toad Software, Eclipse, Java 1.5, Hibernate, Spring, Quartz, and many others. He has also used tools such as SOAtest for WSDL and load testing and is familiar with basic languages such as SQL and XML. Applicant assisted in building and then in maintaining the FMLS system which is a backend application that assures data integrity between multiple systems in the FDA sending, receiving, and performing automated merging on firm data.
Senior Network Administrator
December 2007 – November 2008
After assisting with network administration for HMS, in 2007 Applicant was given the title of Senior Network Administrator. He was in charge of developing and maintaining a backup plan for the company’s computers and servers, performing regular maintenance on hardware and software, monitoring network resources and traffic, and offering advice on hardware and software purchases. He also configured and maintained computer systems for the end user and ran a small help desk for company employees.
USCG Lead Network Administrator
September 2006 – September 2007
Applicant was in charge of a small team which provides network and Nortel telephone system support for the USCG NMC Kearneysville facility which supports about 120 users in three buildings. This project lasted one year and received written praise from a number of the USCG Executives. Applicant was tasked with maintaining a data backup of the facility, keeping the servers up and running, configuring Cisco switches using their IOS, and providing assistant managerial support for the other IT employees.
Development / Testing on Westat Project
March 2006 – May 2007
Applicant assisted the development team with small development tasks and also was in charge of testing the Westat application. This application created dynamic surveys for the client and then stored the information within an SQL Server Database.
Shepherd University
November 2004 – May 2006
Applicant worked for Shepherd University while enrolled in a Bachelors Program. He worked his first year at the library as a network assistant. This covered jobs such as keeping the Desktops dust free, cleaning malware and viruses from employee computers, assisting in setup and teardown of computer labs and classrooms, and maintaining the computers available for student use. After this he moved to a different position working as a lab technician for the Computer Science department. Here Applicant was in charge of setting up labs for Dr. Osman Guzide. This included configuring Cisco Routers and switches, changing network settings on computers so the Networking class can figure out what is wrong, and other network administration related tasks.
