Information Control Corporation is a privately owned company that has around 500 employees that are either based at the main headquarters or at a client's site. ICC is hired by large corporations to head up project in web development, SQL database management, SharePoint, and Java development. Some of their clients are fortune 500 companies, which are located all over the state of Ohio.
Network Engineer
My primary duties at ICC is Network support and troubleshooting of the Cisco ASA firewall, this includes creating site to site VPN with client sites, managing DMZ host and the ACL that allow access to the service on those host, updating the firewall's firmware and software. Monitor IPS for trends and regularly update software on IPS unit. Manage all switches from the core switch down to the access switches. Maintain and create when needed VLANs for new project or groups. Ensure all switches have proper security activated on each port. I support and maintain the wireless access points; the security features WPA password for the guest wireless and 802.1x for the secure wireless. Along with the Cisco devices I support Windows server 2008 r2 roles such as radius server; this is for access to manage the Cisco devices, and the DHCP server to manage subnets for the VLANs.My weekly task also include creating new logons for all new employees in active directory given them proper permission, creating a new email account for them in our 2007 exchange server and allocating size for their email depending on their role in the company.
- Security: I performed security audits by running ping sweep and port scan on the company's pubic subnet. This is to insure there are no open ports that should not be open.I also update the firewall's software as new update are released this also includes the ADSM software. I have current data sheets of which switch port should have port security enabled. The login banner is kept to match current laws; this is to protect the company's information.
- Access: The network Equipment had only local database access, which the entire IT staff had access to. I configured two radiusservers, configure two access groups in active directory, and directed all Cisco devices to those radius servers for authentication and accounting. I also configure a profile in root view for the rest of the IT staff to have the ability to do show commands, ping and trace route.
- Projects: I work with MS core group on implementing Microsoft Lync, I setup a server in the DMZ with a static-NAT addressthis gives the service access to the network. I also setup access list to protect the other servers. I setup a site to site VPN with Huntington bank for a database project, and SharePoint development project.
- Installed and supported Hyper-V host and server. I am supporting an environment of three Hyper-V host that support 80 different virtual servers which includes Windows 2003 r2, 2008, 2008 r2, and 6 Red Hat 5.3 64bit.
- LoadedSolarwinds and configured for network support.
- Create a software package for Cisco Anyconnect to be push out SCCM 2007.
- Upgraded Firewall to use Cisco AnyConnect for mobile client. This project enables the Apple Ipad to load the AnyConnect client and connect to the firewall by way of VPN. The project was to enable the management staff to have a connection to resources such as files and internal websites.
- Configured and installed a new Dell PowerEdge R710 Server. Installed Windows Server 2008 R2 with the Hyper-v manager role. I also built three new virtual servers on it these were for new project that ICC was starting.
- Worked with the site manager to change all the locks to all the wiring closets to match the server room this insures only the IT department has the only keys.
- Wireless Access: Configure the wireless access points to use the radius servers to authorize user's access to the wireless network. I did this by creating a PKI that I push out to all users by way of group policy. I created both a user and a machine group in active directory. The radius server authorizes the user and machine by way of these groups
