  • As team lead for the DAP was responsible for coordinating all actions during the 6 month design and testing phase which involved all 14 of the various network, switch and development groups supporting the platform. As this was the private network which transported calls from the front end servers to the database servers, any disruption would affect 1/3 of all calls on the MCI network.
  • Developed and lab tested the migration plan which comprised over 9000 man hours from 5 different groups. Prepared a implementation guide, back-out plan and full post installation check out procedures to ensure each of the protocols and 45 different call types and database lookups were functional prior to placing the system back in production.
  • Successfully implemented changes in a 1 year rollout with no significant issues or outages.
  • Strong problem solver. Subject matter expert for advanced systems issues.
  • Provided resolution for complex escalated issues, including acting as liaison for MCI our Fortune 100 clients for design issues and for outage situations for systems with downtime loss on the order of 10,000 per minute, and average revenue income of 4 m per day.
  • These systems support over 300 million calls and 1 billion online lookups per day.
  • Recognized with an Ovation Award for quickly identifying and resolving a corrupted database record which caused one of the only complete outages of the DAP system.
  • Sought out by management for complex issue resolution and guidance in determining technical direction.

Proven ability to provide effective technical direction.

  • Designed and implemented migration of over 1 TB of data and 2 SP farms on different enclaves to new HA and DR compliant server farm. Built out 4 Tiered recovery model comprised of VMWare clones, DocAve item recovery, SQL/SP backups and Nutanix based site failover to provide multiple data recovery options.
  • Built 200 line custom script to automate migration of data from site to site collections and re-wrote Air Mobility Request solution which provides scheduling for all military flights throughout Afghanistan.

Senior SharePoint Architect/Developer

  • SharePoint Architect responsible for all aspects of the 16 server SharePoint farm at the US SOCOM HQ in Kabul. • Responsible for migration of 3 different SP farms on multiple enclaves to new farms in new data center in Bagram. Designed and built new farms using HP Proliant blades and Nutanix servers with NetApp, Data Domain and EMC storage solutions. Implemented DocAve DR and VMWare disaster tolerant High Availability solutions for all 3 farms. Farms consist of heavily customized and branded sites with significant custom designed solutions which performs critical functions such as enabling tracking of missions in real time and automation of most divisions daily tasks. Running SharePoint 2010 on Win Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2 on VMWare 5.1 with significant number of custom built web parts and custom branding.
  • As Architect designed and built the server farms and designed and implemented the migration plan and pre-migration test platform to migrate all data and custom solutions to new data center for Special Forces Command. Developer role encompassed developing solutions with SP Designer and Visual Studio for workflow design, custom automation, KPI's, BI and other custom requirements as needed.
  • Designed and built new farm to upgrade the existing farm infrastructure from ad hoc hardware which was overtaxed to a new fully disaster tolerant hardware platform, as well as scale up to support the increased usage of the farm in critical day to day operations.
  • Upgraded from 6 physical server farm , to VM based 12 server farm, consisting of 4 WFE, 3 AS servers, separate Index and Search servers, with dedicated SQL Reporting Services server and a HA SQL Cluster backend, with off site, warm standby SQL cluster utilizing log shipping for a 1 hour DR solution.
  • Built out 3 tiered development, Near Production farm which is synced weekly with production data to allow for pre-deployment and custom web part development, along with a change management solution.
  • Increased IOPS to over 10k for SQL by going to SSD based Nutanix cluster eliminating performance issues which had been causing a load time for the home page of almost 1 minute down to 15 seconds.
  • Rebuilt key XSLT web part on home page which was using post query filter elements to an extremely large list, to a SPQuery based custom web part reducing total query time from 45 seconds to 5 seconds. This resolved a 6 month old recurring problem for the web part wherein it would exceed the SQL query timeouts for web parts, fail to load and would then necessitate a manual application pool reset.
  • Built 200 line PowerShell script to migrate existing Sub-Sites into Site Collections which automated the process of creating all the custom CSS, Master Pages, Themes as well as install and active the required custom Features/Solutions and farm based InfoPath forms required to allow the new Sub site to be the Site Collection root.

  • Built form based SP solution for Air Mobility Requests which is used to schedule all flights across AFGN. Solution accepts requests, passes them to Air Command for processing and allows cargo masters and 7 other groups to quickly build out flight plans for all the cargo. This solution eliminated a 30 page excel worksheet using email work process and trimmed flight planning time down from 18 hours to 2 hours
  • Built out custom solution for CG which would auto-download and cache the site whenever there was a connection for his command team so that while traveling he would have access to all latest content.
  • Implemented FAST search servers with optimized custom Scopes across the farm and for specific Mission Trackers which allowed CJ3 operators to quickly collate sets of data across the local farm.

Due to unlimited data size restrictions for remote folders, some user sizes would easily surpass 20 gigs per user depending on the rank of the user. With over 30k users this required constant oversight and maintenance for the file servers.
