Senior Systems Analyst/Team Lead

  • In 2004 PHH Mortgage decided to abandon the legacy UI layer and create a new Java web based mortgage application called LoanSpan. I was one of the team members tasked with creating a prototype that would impress the Senior Leadership team enough to abandon the old application which was extremely stable by this point. I helped design an application which used JSP's and Servlets as the presentation layer and a separate layer using EJB's for business logic.
  • Participated in the full life cycle of the application from initial idea to designing a JUnit testing suite for the application.
  • Designed, coded, and tested a complex MVC application with a user community of 4000 individuals. This application used a JSP view layer, with a JPF layer as the controller running on a Weblogic Portal Server.
  • Used Oracle Toplink to map relational database elements to Java container objects.
  • Supervised 4 developers in their coding practices and general work duties.
  • Designed and built screens for Creating a Lead , Lead Overview , Customer Liabilities , Customer Assets , Customer Income , Lead Comments These pages were a combination of JSP, HTML and extensive Javascript.
  • In 2007 moved to a Weblogic Portal architecture to improve performance and reliability.
  • Ran stress tests on the system to eliminate bottlenecks and also tune the Java code to discover inefficiencies.
  • Worked as a liaison between the business community and the IT team to come up with realistic time lines and accurate business requirements.
  • Took part in Architecture review sessions to better decide on the use of new technology rather than just switching for the sake of switching because something is new.
  • Created JUnit tests to facilitate the help desk in solving problems related to data issues entered by users.
  • Worked closely with end users to find out their opinions on the system and what could be changed to make their jobs more efficient, this lead to a series of screen updates and general flow of the application.
  • Used advanced data modeling techniques to create tables and stored procedures in SYBASE.

  • In 2000, PHH Mortgage, then known as Cendant Mortgage entered an agreement with Fannie Mae to create an autonomous pricing and scoring engine known as Landscape. This project would allow our systems to make a single call to Fannie Mae to return all the mortgage programs and pricing a customer was eligible for in a very short time frame. This also lead the company to go from a basic client server architecture with Powerbuilder and C, C executables to a Middle Tier based architecture using BEA's Weblogic application server and Java code. The project was very successful and transformed the way all major mortgage companies would do business for a great deal of time.
  • Translated the existing credit reporting system into a Java based architecture eliminated the queuing in the Unix layer for a more traditional MQ setup.
  • Further tuned the system to return credit reports in around thirty seconds down from one minute.
  • Created a new Closing Cost system using data from both an Oracle and Sybase database to drive logic and fees returned to the end user.
  • Developed new routing framework to switch between different outside vendors when an outage or general slowness occurred.
  • Worked closely with team from Fannie Mae to hash out requirements, come up with an approach, and finally created detailed design documents which were used to develop the applications and also come up with test plans.
  • Designed an in-house rules based engine using simple English rules written and stored in a Sybase database, then translated into Java objects in the middle tier to return conditional based rules and messages to the UI.
  • Created a JSP front end for business users to update and insert new rules into the database for use by the rules based engine.

  • My initial assignment was the company's credit reporting system which was based on C,C executables run on a Unix platform with numerous Unix scripts managing the software. The system was flawed because of lack of speed and reliability and I was tasked with upgrading the system and have it available 24/7.
  • Rewrote C executables to pull data from a Sybase database once a flag was set in the database using the existing Powerbuilder UI.
  • New executables were faster with better error checking and less reliance on human interaction.
  • Modified database tables to a more object orientated approach which allows faster inserts on the return of the credit report and also less redundancy of data.
  • Created automated failover systems using Unix scripting which prevented down time within the system.
  • Designed a complex queuing and failover system if one of the credit vendors slowed down or shut off completely to eliminate impact to end users.
  • Tuned the system to return a credit report in less than a minute from its original two to two and half minute range.
