Infrastructure Engineer

  • Local onsite resource at the Cardinal Health at Home former AssuraMed facility responsible for the integration of legacy production systems into the larger Cardinal Health datacenters. First project phase focused on the stabilization and normalization of existing environment by employing monitoring, repairing hardware failures, resolving system configuration issues, and identifying single points of failure/implementing high-availability where beneficial. Second project phase consisted of physical-to-virtual P2V /virtual-to-virtual migrations of acquisition servers into the vSphere clusters housed within the Cardinal Health datacenters. Final phase, currently in progress, dedicated to integration of migrated servers into corporate environment by means of domain migration, rights-leveling, and application standardization.
  • Significant hands-on experience with cutting-edge enterprise technologies: Cisco Nexus 7000 core switches, Cisco Nexus 2000 Fabric Extenders, HP BladeSystem c7000 chassis and Proliant BL460c Gen 9 blade servers, Oracle Exadata X3-8 database servers, and VMware vSphere 5.5 datacenters, clusters, hosts, and guests.

System Architect/Systems Administrator III

  • Participated in the design, installation, and configuration of a new computing environment supporting the concurrent reimplementation of the Pharmacy Data Transaction System PDTS using modern programming paradigms. Worked closely with developers to gather application environmental requirements. Translated requirements into infrastructure specifications and constructed a distributed computing system from that blueprint. Heavily leveraged virtualization to create a highly available computing environment consisting of 14 Ethernet switches, 6 firewalls, 4 FC switches, 2 SANs, 20 hypervisors and 4 database servers.
  • Obtained Department of Defense DoD security clearance.
  • Directly involved in virtualization architecture, SAN planning, and network design.
  • Created a fully redundant hybrid physical/virtual computing environment from the ground up.

Senior Systems Administrator

  • Highest-ranking administrator responsible for the design, deployment, tuning, and maintenance of an infrastructure backing more than 70 full-service clients and nearly 100 staff members. Primary responsibilities include the management of 4 routers directing a 2-circuit BGP-enabled gateway and P2P links, 2 load-balanced firewalls protecting company assets, 16 Layer-3 Gigabit Ethernet switches supporting the network backbone, 2 SANs and 4 fabric switches housing 30TB of client data, and 6 hypervisors hosting 120 virtual machines. Secondary responsibilities consist of the creation, configuration, and deployment of new servers and the administration of 12 database servers, 4 file servers, 2 email servers, and 50 assorted AD, SAP, SAS, SharePoint, TFS, vCenter, Web, etc. servers. Tertiary responsibilities involve providing ancillary support for 100 workstations and serving as a tier-3 technical reference for the administration team.
  • Deployed the ShoreTel Unified Communications Platform to replace a legacy PBX phone system. Installed and configured redundant managed PoE Ethernet switches, provisioned voice VLANs routing voice traffic where required across the network core, and turned up end-to-end QoS to ensure voice quality. Installation consisted of 3 voice switches, a VPN Concentrator, 60 phones w/client software installations, and virtualized core voice server software.
  • Constructed an ad hoc Virtual Desktop Infrastructure VDI framework at minimal cost by combining VMware, standardized Windows 7 templates, Remote Desktop Protocol RDP , roaming user profiles, folder redirection, strong group policies, and creative scripting resulting in managed virtual workstations accessible internally by Wyse thin clients and externally via an HTTP-SSL VPN portal.
  • Improved Internet connectivity and reliability by supplementing a single 10Mbit fiber circuit with a 10.8Mbit 7xDS1/TDM copper circuit. Distinct ISPs, redundant routers, and Border Gateway Protocol BGP provide fault-tolerance and a degree load sharing. Provisioned routers from existing Cisco Catalyst 3750 switches using Virtual Routing and Forwarding VRF yielding a savings of 34,000.
  • Installed, configured, and hosted SAP Business Planning and Consolidation BPC application and database servers for QDMH the parent company of International Data Management. By utilizing available headroom remaining in the existing virtual architecture the organization avoided a 150,000 setup fee and saved 28,000/year in application hosting fees.
  • Designed and implemented 3 virtual Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 active/active failover clusters each comprised of 3 nodes and 3 server instances with combined access to 18TB of raw mapped physical storage. The hybrid virtual/physical architecture obtained all of the benefits of virtualization without the associated I/O bottlenecks by exploiting direct access to shared physical storage within a tier-1 SAN.
  • Oversaw installation of Xiotech/X-IO Emprise 7000 SAN. Joined 2 existing Xiotech Emprise 5000 NAS JBODs to the new SAN. Reconfigured fiber channel FC switching fabric to provide fault-tolerance for the new 45TB SAN, an existing 24TB SAN, and 20 attached HBAs. Provisioned 64 LUNs for immediate database use. Migrated 4 existing mission-critical LUNs to realize a three-fold performance increase.
  • Built a single-server virtualization solution for a satellite office in Amsterdam. The hypervisor, containing a read-only domain controller RODC , a database server, a Web Server, and a file/FTP server, hosts a small Web application enabling European clients and personnel to more effectively access and process donor information. The out-of-the box solution needed only to be mounted, wired, and powered on by local staff.

SQL Developer

Contributed to a donor and campaign management system known as PartnerPlus , a Web application and primary company offering accessible by clients. Responsibilities included database development creation of tables, indexes/indices, views, and stored procedures , business intelligence and analytics production of SSRS reports and SSIS automation packages , and software development advanced T-SQL, C , and VB.NET programming . Served as database normalization and optimization expert, resident data transformation authority, and import/export automation specialist CSV/DBF/EDI to/from MSSQL via FTP/SFTP/SMTP .

IT Administrator Application Developer

Brought the company from a single non-networked i386 computer to a 4 server/25 workstation network. Hand-built all new servers and workstations to a well-developed standard for the harsh industrial environment. Embraced the stability and security of the NT kernel early with Windows NT 4, onto Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Ensured that all user accounts operated with limited local and network credentials, dramatically reducing the number of help-desk calls. Made the effort to audit applications which malfunctioned under limited credentials by selectively granting access where required in order to restore functionally. Standardized the computing environment to enable roaming user profiles for maximum workplace flexibility. Installed a fax server with Outlook and Exchange integration, consolidating inbound and outbound queues and distributing fax users. Implemented a single-box FreeBSD-based gateway and routing solution, complete with DHCP, DNS, firewall, NAT, NTP, SMTP, HTTP, and VPN, well before commodity routers were widely available. Migrated nearly all server duties onto open source platforms save Active Directory and Exchange for a considerable increase stability and security with a substantial decrease in maintenance costs. Developed and maintained a custom MRP/manufacturing control application with features including: quoting, orders, inventory management, job specifications, and forecasting.
