IMIS is an enterprise application that allows internal customers and suppliers on-line access to both current and historical information concerning internal market transactions, both in summary detail views. The user interface was written in Wingz Hyper Script on Macintosh computers accessing a DB2 database residing on a 3090 mainframe. Communications to the DB2 database was provided via TCP/IP. I was responsible for writing what was called the SELECTION SHELL, which would allow the user to select data from the database by choosing attributes of a store region, state, promotion type, time period . The SELECTION SHELL used this information to dynamically create an SQL select statement to retrieve the data which the user could then use in other areas of the application to create reports or use for analysis.
