Microcomputer Network Instructor/ Program Manager
- When I was hired as network manager at Confidential, they had less than 500 computers and a coax Ethernet network. They were running Windows 3.0 and Novell Netware file and print servers. The 5 existing computer labs did not have Internet connectivity. The college connection to the Internet was 64 kb and email was only used by a few brave faculty and staff. I found a free email system, Pegasus, which worked with Novell, and installed it on the server. I made a deal with the President of the College to only send minutes by email instead of paper to force users to use their email. We installed a gopher server, web server and started publishing our student newspaper online. I volunteered to teach our first online course and taught Internet access courses for the staff and faculty. Within 3 years our campus was named number one in technology in the region and the following year number one in the nation for community colleges in technology. In '97 I was asked to teach full time and Microsoft asked me to join 7 other faculty from around the world to travel to Redmond, Washington in order to meet with Microsoft visionaries to develop a higher-education training alliance between highschools, colleges and Microsoft. My years at Confidential show that I am not afraid to initiate change and I am willing to put in the extra time and effort to secure positive results.
