EXPERIENCE:

Confidential, Denver, CO

Software Architect, Big Data Architect, Infrastructure Architect

Responsibilities:

  • Support CPE and CMTS network operations groups in DOCSIS 3 IPv4/IPv6 environment.
  • Includes support for residential and commercial voice, video and high speed Internet.
  • Requires interfacing and data collection with Cisco, ARRIS, 3COM, etc. CMTS’s, cable modems, network routers/switches, etc. via snmp, telnet and other network based tools.
  • Hadoop (HDFS, YARN), ElasticSearch/Logstash/Kibana, Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, Cassandra, HBase, MongoDB and Redis
  • Avro, Kafka, Go, Java, Python, PHP, Perl, JavaScript, NodeJS, HTML5, Git
  • Apache HTTP Server, nginx, Squid, Linux, Docker, Mesos, DC/OS, Kubernetes, Puppet
  • Implemented Docker container based application architecture and Apache Mesos based DC/OS clustered data center
  • Architecture and development of internal operations web-based data portal. This portal provides insight into a converged view of CMTS’s, cable modems and CPE equipment. It contains over 150 network management tools and graphical dashboard related tools that are used extensively by technical support groups, in-field technicians, customer support representatives and senior level management throughout the company. The portal typically experiences several hundred thousand hits per month and is considered a Severity One Outage when it is not available. Internal customers include CARE, Einstein, Head Waters, CPE, BU, Xfinity Home, technicians in the field, Metro E, Commercial Voice, Reliability Engineering/Voice, ANO, CORE as well as National.
  • Implementation of data warehouse processing approximately one terabyte of data each day
  • Architecture and development of a real-time streaming data cable modem-monitoring application. In this application over 40,000,000 Customer cable modems “call home” to provide CMTS’s with statistics regarding their health on a continuous basis. The CMTS’s forward this information out to the network via an Apache Kafka Avro real time data stream. This application monitors the incoming streaming cable modem data and consolidates and groups it on a real-time basis. Output includes real-time deep learning/machine learning analysis and evaluation of trending data. This output is forwarded via Kafka to various data stores, including Hadoop, Cassandra, Oracle and Redis. This data also support real-time graphing and presentation, Extensive use of concurrent/parallel processing programming and development tools and techniques used extensively throughout project. All components of project reside within Docker containers
  • Architecture and development of a cable modem health state monitoring application that processes over 40,000,000 rows every ten minutes (this application which runs 24/7/365 effectively tracks over over 6,000,000,000 rows per day). The data is stored in an Oracle database as well as a Redis in-memory cluster. Monitoring results are presented graphically via a web-based application that uses a parallel processing implementation of node.js as well as extensive parallel processing at the Linux bash level. Application is used extensively throughout the company (up to and including senior executive level). Extensive use of concurrent/parallel processing programming and development tools and techniques used extensively throughout project. All components of project reside within Docker containers
  • Architecture and development of the real time monitoring of cable modems as part of companywide “Prevent The Call” project. Purpose of project is to provide substantial improvement in customer experience on the network. This project includes real-time monitoring of all cable modem devices and CMTS’s on the network. When device anomalies are detected (i.e. lack of internet connectivity, inactive phone lines, performance related issues, etc.) they are automatically corrected using appropriate snmp calls. Extensive use of concurrent/parallel processing programming and development tools and techniques used extensively throughout project.
  • System administrator responsibilities for over seventy Linux (Redhat 6.x, 7.x, Centos 6.x, 7.x, Oracle 6.x, 7.x, Ubuntu 14.x, 16.x) based servers, including a diversified mix of Dell and HP hardware platforms, an assortment of virtual platforms including VMWare and OpenStack and Amazon AWS server instances
