SAP Consulting Engagements - June 1998 - Present
For Confidential: Designed and implemented variant configuration solutions for three lines of business. Duration: 4 months.
- GT Solar’s in-house house produced Directional Solidification System furnace product line; a silicon growth furnace used to produce ingots used in the manufacture of solar cells.
- The sale of spares and ancillary equipment related to the DSS Growth Furnace.
- A project systems integrated configuration model supporting the sale of turnkey fabrication lines for the production of photovoltaic wafers, solar cells, and modules based on desired factory output in megawatts and other environment/equipment variables. Complex calculations for production inputs/outputs from wafer to cell to module lines utilized to determine estimated factory output and equipment quantity recommendations. Project system activities and in-house/third party equipment components were selected automatically based on the sales configuration.
- Coordinated with Sales & Distribution on SAP system customization related to configurable product sales.
For Confidential: Designed and implemented an SAP engineer to order Variant Configuration solution to support the design, sales and production of underground mining equipment. Duration: 18 months - two projects.
- The solution included four distinct product families; three for the United States market and one in the Asia Pacific region.
- Coordinated with marketing account representatives, engineering, and manufacturing operations to deliver an end to end integrated solution.
- Developed and delivered customized variant configurator training including the use of engineering change management to enable the maintenance of configurator data directly in the production system. Special consideration was given to product analysis and data design so the solution met business process requirements and could be maintained with minimal effort going forward.
For Confidential: Designed and implemented an SAP engineer-to-order Variant Configuration solution to support the sales and production of locomotives and engines. Duration: 18 months.
- The solution had to support EMD’s existing engineering and manufacturing processes. This required the design of custom SAP applications to perform bill-of-material and routing netting. Based on option selection, bill of material components are added, adjusted, or removed from a base locomotive or engine. Routing adjustments required were labor, operations, operation text, and component allocation.
- To support the locomotive engineer-to-order inquiry process, the configurator was utilized to allow the specification of reference materials for baseline cost. The configurator user could then enter adjusting values for per unit manufacturing material or labor as well as per order engineering costs and development hours. This was accomplished through a combination of bill-of-material and routing processing using reference characteristics to affect component materials, quantities, and routing operation labor.
- Developed and delivered customized variant configurator training including the use of engineering change management to enable the maintenance of configurator data directly in the production system.
- Worked with product engineering at three plants in two countries in a configuration principles education phase before engaging them in product analysis.
- Implemented three product lines utilizing global classification and configuration rules.
- Coordinated IMG customizing with sales and manufacturing.
- Prepared and delivered customized variant configurator training.
For Confidential: Designed and implemented SAP Advance Mode models representing warehouse automation systems. Implementation emphasis was on an object-oriented design, maximizing reusability and performance and minimizing maintenance. SAP Advance Mode is enhanced configurator functionality supporting product composition as opposed to traditional decomposition using a maximal bill-of-material. Duration 5 months.
- Assisted in the design of the interface to move Advance Mode models from the IPC environment to SAP R/3 where they will be used to drive manufacturing completion through an engineer-to-order process utilizing Order BOM’s transferred to the Project System.
- Assisted in the design/testing of java functions required for pricing and to automate the creation of component instances of multi-level Advance Mode models using the IPC configuration engine.
- Designed and delivered SAP Advance Mode Configurator training.
For Confidential: Served as the Variant Configuration team lead. Duration: 2 years.
- Directed the design/estimation, blueprint and implementation phases of the engine division product modeling efforts.
- Assisted in the design of automation tools used in the conversion of legacy system product models into SAP R/3.
- Coordinated integration efforts for the Variant Configuration team. The project utilized Variant Configuration models in SAP CRM and the standalone IPC called from a Caterpillar Dealer custom quote tool, as well as in interfaces to the SAP Business Warehouse and Caterpillar manufacturing/pricing and Dealer legacy systems.
- Coordinated design and implementation efforts with two offsite international Variant Configuration groups based in Ireland and England.
- Prepared and delivered client-specific Variant Configurator training.
- Successfully managed the development/ test schedule for an on-time delivery within the budget.
For Confidential: Coordinated conversion of their manual product configuration management process to the SAP Variant Configuration environment as part of a total Configure-to-Quote solution including the use of the SAP Sales Configuration and Pricing Engines. This project included product restructuring to align with the implementation of Lean Manufacturing. Duration: 2-1/2 years.
- Through an integrated analysis of customer process requirements and product configuration constraints, I designed and developed the go-live product models. A multi-level configuration was implemented with separation between the Sales and Manufacturing processes. Over two hundred configurable bills of material on six levels were generated automatically based on product configuration. SAP Order BOM functionality was implemented giving Lam the flexibility to incorporate special customer requests using instantiation and order specific bills of material.
- Performed customer training for product modelers.
- Developed the change and release process for Product Management’s monthly release cycle, utilizing SAP Engineering Change Management to enable controlled and documented product model updates in the production client.
- Coordinated with the engineering and operations groups to implement Lam’s engineering change process in the SAP environment.
Industry Experience - Confidential - Served as inventory control manager, a senior business analyst, and an IT project manager.
- Coordinated the implementation of AST’s build to order initiative, reducing finished goods inventory by 60%, and improving delivery cycle times.
- Installed and configured Rhythm Factory Planner from i2 Technologies to perform a fast MRP, what if scenarios, real time ATP to the sales force, and a material clear daily production schedule.
- Managed the year 2000 project to insure that AST’s core business systems were ready for the millennium change. Implemented RF transaction processing to automate warehouse receiving, shipping, issue, and transfer functions, and the WIP physical inventory.
- Designed and implemented JIT delivery and pay by consumption processes.
- Directed the design/analysis effort for the support of manufacturing, warehousing/distribution, material/production planning, and finance. As inventory control manager, implemented a key indicator metrics package to measure inventory performance, shop floor throughput, and cash flow. Improved inventory accuracy to 99.95% through the implementation of an aggressive root cause analysis/cycle count program.
