Role: Worked extensively in Variant configuration designing the complex models. Involved in Business Requirements gathering pertaining to Legacy systems that needs to talk to
SAP R/3 VC for the synchronization of the data & the structure needed to be harmonized among various Regions too.
The Harmonization of the Materials was the Major challenge in this Particular Project as the part numbers varied among regions that led to some inconsistency in Sales Orders among regions and even in the Legacy system. This was essentially an upgrade project.

SAP Variant Configuration:

  • The configurable materials involved were highly complex with the Super BOM's going as deep as 4 levels of configuration. Lots of dependencies & rules had to be written for the various permutations & combinations of BOM's, Characteristics, Variant tables etc.
  • Creating Characteristics and Dependencies.
  • Configuration of the different types of Dependencies for controlling the selection of variants for the configurable material.
  • Variant functions for checking & maintaining the consistency of values in the tables for the variant materials was done.
  • Written lots of complex dependencies(Rules) to select the BOM components in a multi-level Hybrid BOM, calculate pricing of the variant products, values etc. in Routings, to get the appropriate components to a work center etc. Different dependencies were written to get the end result namely Pre Condition, Selection Conditon, Procedures for computing BOM quantity & Pricing & last but no the least - Constraints which formed the most complex dependency to check the consistency of values, bring values from the top-bottom/bottom-top amongst different classes.
