Final Project: My trips and tours
Functionality:
- Each user has an account set up by the registration form. An email is sent to the user after registration.
- Authorized users can create their own trips looking into the Google Maps.
- When provided a location and date the map would whisk the user to the location and display
- The weather forecast for the next 5 days if available.
- The popular places around the location with clickable markers on the Google maps.
- Users can add these places to the trip; remove from the trip and save the trip details.
- The user can view all the trips with 4 trips displayed per page.
- The user can also search for a trip. An invite email is sent to all emails in the shared list.
- The user can modify the trip, delete the trip or share the trip if made public.
- The user can enter blog about the trip. The latest tweets of the trip are displayed if twitter name is provided in the profile and hashtag in the trip details.
- The user can edit the profile and send a mail to the webmaster for feedback.
Technical Details:
- The website was developed using “Code Igniter “- A PHP MVC framework.
- Technologies used - PHP, JavaScript, AJAX, MySQL, JSON, XHTML and CSS.
- Integrated with “Weather.gov REST API” to obtain the weather forecast for a location.
- Integrated with “Panoramio API” to display the popular places around a location and placed markers on Google Map.
- Integrated with the “Twitter search API” to obtain the latest twitter feeds.
- Integrated YAHOO YUI dialog to display error messages to the user. This is to ensure cross browser compatibility.
- Integrated YAHOO YUI pop up calendar to allow user to select dates.
- Performed all client side validation using JavaScript and server side validations using PHP.
- Used AJAX calls to obtain data from PHP program in JSON format.
- Used feature like session, mail and performed through error handling in PHP using MVC framework.
- Designed tables in MySQL along with various constraints and indexes to maintain consistent data.

- Developed an integrated web application using Google API to locate populous cities around a specified user location.
