Confidential, IOWA CITY, IA MAR’08 - JAN’09
Sr. Oracle ETL Developer
CONFIDENTIAL is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides more than a hundred assessment, research, information, and program management services in the broad areas of education and workforce development. CONFIDENTIAL introduced the Work keys test program in the earlier part of 2008. Candidates, on successful completion of the program would qualify for three different certificates (Gold, Silver, Bronze) based on their scores from three aptitude tests- Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information and Locating Information.
Following the introduction of the program, customers requested reports that included Certificate and Test information. The first phase of the project was to build a Data warehouse that encompassed all programs within the CONFIDENTIAL program. Each program within CONFIDENTIAL had different reporting requirements although the core data source structure remained the same. To meet the reporting needs, it was proposed that Datamarts would be built over the data warehouse. The Datamarts (second phase) were built for individual programs thus accommodating different business reporting requirements and supporting ad hoc extrConfidentials that customers requested. The entire ETL process from warehouse to Datamart was developed over a period of a year, using the Oracle Warehouse Builder.
OWB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for ETL using OWB
- Extensive use of mapping operators ( Key lookup, Joiner, Sorter, Splitter, Filter, Aggregator, Expression, Mapping Sequence, Pre-mapping process and Post-mapping process)
- Involved in ETL tuning at the data-mapping level and database level.
- Developed snapshots for tables from source systems with limited or no timestamp information.
- Designed and built ETL mappings based on the client specified testing and deployment procedures. Extensive unit testing was performed before promoting all ETL mappings to test.
- Documented and built deployment plans to promote code from the test environment to Production following sign off from Testing operations.
- Involved in weekly meetings with Program Managers to identify issues and concerns and new requirements to completely harness the Datawarehouse structure.
- Built custom procedures that extrConfidentialed data from XML source systems that eventually loaded the warehouse.
- Identified and deployed critical updates to ETL mappings with minimal turnaround time.
- With significant changes to the structure of the final reports and after several mapping iterations, I was involved in regression testing of the data end to end flow.
- Provided recommendations on the structure of the staging and the warehouse environment based on my knowledge of the source system table structures.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Generated reports using OBIEE.
- Requirements gathering for reports as well and data extrConfidentials on a day to day basis.
- Mentor IT personnel on design and development
- Based on client requirements all existing ETL mapping were to be translated to custom PL/SQL code.
- Tune ETL code packages using explain plan, hints and indexes.
- Monitor production runs and nightly ETL loads through job logs.
- Provide production support for mappings relevant to the Datawarehouse and the Datamart.
- Designed and developed packages, triggers using PL/SQL
- Database performance tuning using Explain Plan and TKPROF.
- Created indexes, Views, constraints.
- Used import, export and SQL*Loader to load and backup data.
- Developed interface programs to load data into temporary tables using PL/SQL and SQL.
