PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Confidential, Algonquin, IL
Mainframe Storage Contractor
Responsibilities:
- Cleaning up HSM and DFSMS environments as there are issues.
- Have 10 LPARS under 1 DFHSM environment and they want to split it to 4 environments. Ran HSM expirebv. It freed up over 400000 backup datasets and made over 1000 tapes available for recycle. Recycled the tapes.
- Apparently no recycle process developed as recycled over another 2500 tapes.
- Audited the HSM MCDS and received over 9000 errors. Cleaned up errors.
- Both BCDS and OCDS also had errors which were cleaned up
- Set up DB2 data base logical backups outside of DB2 but recommended they get a DB2 product to back them up. As if you restore DB2 databases outside of DB2, there is major issue because DB2 has it’s own internal catalog.
- Redesigned DFSMS as no management class was being set as no ACS Routine for managemet class. Wrote management class ACS routine and then copied different storage classes to force back into the ACS Routines and set Management Class.
- Cleanup of catalogs as a lot of entries pointing to volumes that do not exist and entries pointing to volumes but the data is not there.
- Micro Focus has no catalog product and no way to forward recover a catalog.
- Micro Focus has HSM journaling turned off so no way to forward recover an HSM control dataset if lost.
- After all my clean up notified Micro Focus that this on going process and if ignored will wind up with the same mess.
- Parallel Sysplex with 10 LPARS and 1 monoplex.
- Contract ended as Micro Focus hired some one locally in Utah
Mainframe Storage Contractor
Responsibilities:
- Support DFSMS, DFDSS, DFHSM, and ICF catalogs.
- Teaching myself REXX to go along with my other programming languages.
- Wrote SAS code against MXG database to identify data that had to move from 1 lpar to another in preparation of Philadelphia, PA to Johns Creek, GA move.
- Installed and used Space Finder to determine DASD bottlenecks.
- Reorganized several catalogs because of problems diagnosed with Catalog Recovery Plus.
- Set up JCL for movement of data to upgrade to current ACS Routine changes in a Sysplex with Lpars environment.
- 4 Sysplexes 45 lpars highest ZOS 1.13.
- Left contract ended.
Mainframe Storage Contractor
Responsibilities:
- Mainframe Storage, DFSMS,DFHSM,DFDSS, ICF Catalogs, Disaster recovery etc.
- Wrote Dasd Usage system and active tape usage reporting system using Dcollect data and Ca1 TMC. It was written in SAS.
- Took data and created Power Point Graphs showing usage.
- IBMLINK research PTFS and install PTFS using SMP/E with receive, apply check and apply to get to target libs and accept check and accept to get to DLIBS.
- Fixed major issues as Confidential had 2 Lpars using shared DASD. The master catalogs are different causing issues with HSM and DFSMS as they are only running one treating it like a shared environment when it really is not because of the issues with the master catalogs.
- Reorganized HSM control datasets which had not been done in 2 years.
- Reorganized HSM small dataset packing datasets which had not been done since 1999.
- Audit of HSM and correct the extensive number of errors.
- Converted various SAS programs to Cobol as Confidential let SAS expire because they were getting off the mainframe.
- Updated disaster recovery documentation as there were some flaws.
- Wrote various TMSGRW programs against the CA1 TMC.
- Monthly SCRTOOL so Confidential could get IBM discounts.
- Mentored and taught storage team mate in India.
- Confidential running ZOS 1.11 on 2 sysplexes and 4 lpars.

- Left contract ended.
Mainframe Storage Contractor
Responsibilities:
- Disaster Recovery, DFHSM, DFSMS, DFDSS, DFRMM, CA1, TLMS, SAS, etc.
- Major accomplishments were increasing the size of the DFHSM contro datasets, extending volser range of TLMS, and wrote many SAS programs.
- In movement of old ATL to a new ATL, was able to identify all the reasons for tape failures on the ones that failed using SAS utility PROC=TAPELABEL.
- Wrote CA1 TMSGRW and SAS code to generate tape utilities.
- IBMLINK to research PTFS and move to the mainframe, installing with SMP/E to target libraries.
- Over 50 accounts and 300 lpars and numerous sysplexs running different versions of ZOS.

- MXG reporting. From MXG reports created Power Point graphs for management.
- Catalog Solutions to Catalog Recovery Plus conversion.
- Split the single user catalog into multiple user catalogs so that there was not 1 point of failure to take the system down.
- Revamped DFSMS to come up with more meaningful names and used SAS to update records in the control datasets
- Wrote SAS code against HSM FSR records to create reports similar to HSM Reporter so we could get rid of the software and save money.
