  • Project name : VAHAN 2.0

Technologies used : Core Java, JSF, ADF, Swing, RMI, JDBC, Oracle
Team size : 16
Duration : July’08 – Oct’10
Client : Regional Transport Office
Role : Programmer
Responsibilities : GUI Designing, GUI Development, Coding, Development of Components, Testing, Implementation
Objective:

VAHAN 2.0 is a Java based 3-tier distributed computing architecture. It is designed to use the distributed computing architecture using JAVA/RMI Technology. Purpose of this project is to computerize the basic function of RTO (Regional Transport Office) of India. Swing is used as application client. RMI works in the heart of application server as communicator between clients and application server. JDBC 2.0 is used to communicate with database. VAHAN can work with any RDBMS like ORACLE, SQL-SERVER, and DB2 etc. Main objective of this project is registration of vehicles. It has several modules like Fee, Fitness, Registration, Tax, Permit, Enforcement, Smart Card etc.

Registration Module: This module is designed to perform different activities related to registration process. E.g. Owner Detail Entry, Registration Backlog Entry, Printing of Registration Certificate etc.

Tax Module: This module is the most important & key part of the software. Tax is calculated automatically, based on the parameters selected and their corresponding tax slab. Tax of a vehicle depends on the class type, its related parameters and their values.

Fee Module: Fee module is used to take different fees related to Registration, Fitness, Permit etc. which depend on the vehicle classes and categories. It also generates the fee receipt after fee entry.

Enforcement Module: This module is dedicated to enforce some restriction on the vehicles running on roads. I.e. A vehicle has been issued a challan, then in this case, that particular vehicle neither can run on the road nor can any process be carried out against that vehicle, until and unless, issued challan gets cleared against that vehicle.

Fitness Module: Fitness is very important for commercial vehicles. A vehicle without fitness cannot go for the registration process and it can’t run on the road. Fitness is done initially for 2 year and then for 1 year subsequently. There are different fitness parameters which need to be tested, before a vehicle is being declared fit.

Permits Module: This module is aimed to issue permit for commercial vehicles. Under this module, different processes like permit backlog, grant of new permit, permit renewal and print permit certificate are carried out.

Smart Card Module: This is newly added feature in VAHAN. This is simple module in which, all the details entered during the process of registration is pushed into flat file and is given to the vendor hired by RTO. Based on that flat file, Smart Card is given to the user, which works as RC for him/her.
