Oracle Consultant Resume
EXPERIENCE SUMMARY:
Over 9 yearsof extensive knowledge and proficiency in oracle 9i, 10g and recently 11g database design, administration and systems analysis. I have excellent communication skills and I am a great team player with a fast learning curve. I can work perfectly and effectively under stressful conditions where speed and accuracy are necessary for mission critical databases. My attention to detail and the ability to maximize system resources can be beneficial in the following areas.
- Database creation.
- Backup and recovery.
- Monitoring and Performance tuning.
- Database Upgrade and Migration.
- Data and database integrity and security.
- Oracle High Availability Architecture (HA) involving Oracle RAC and Dataguard.

Oracle Consultant Nov 2010 - Present
As a member of the Federal Acquisition Services (FAS) team I support Oracle and SQL Server databases. I support over 35 Oracle databases, which include Development, Test and Production environments. Currently working on migrating databases from Oracle 9i and 10g to 11g. Below are some of my other responsibilities as an Oracle DBA on this project:
- Install and configure Oracle 11g software on Sun Solaris operating system.
- Installed and configured Oracle 11gR2 RAC databases for development, test and production environments on Linux Red hat platform.
- Utilize Active Dataguard feature for standby databases used for reporting.
- Applied Oracle quarterly patches to non-RAC and RAC configured databases.
- Create and configure new Oracle databases as required using DBCA
- Reorganizing and restructuring of existing databases to meet OFA standards and for optimizing performance.
- Installation and configuration of Oracle Grid Control, which is used to centrally manage and administer all databases on various hosts.
- Maintain Oracle Dataguard Physical standby databases for disaster recovery. Ensure that standby database is always in sync with production database by checking archivelogs sequences.
- Performing Dataguard swithover as required for maintenance. This includes coordinating with application owners and sys admins to when the switchover can be performed.
- Perform backup and recovery using RMAN and Flash Recovery Area.
- Cloning of production databases as needed for testing, development using RMAN and Grid Control.
- Creating tablespaces and planning the location of data, index and rollback tablespaces redo log files and control files in adherence to the Optimal Flexible Architecture.
- Perform data migration using Export/Import and Datapump.
- Managing database security by creating and assigning appropriate roles and privileges to users depending on the user activity.
- Utilize Automatic Workload Repository (AWR) to generate snapshots of key performance data, such as time-model statistics, which shows you how long each database activity is taking and high-load-SQL statistics which aids in identifying resource-intensive SQL statements.
- Utilize Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM) to reduce DB time by diagnosing key problems such as Expensive SQL statements, I/O performance issues, Locking and concurrency issues, Excessive parsing, Resource bottlenecks (including memory and CPU bottlenecks) and recommending a solution.

Sr. Oracle Database Administrator Dec 2007- Oct 2010
The Department of Justice Civil Rights Division has a Geographic Information System (GIS) , which a state-of-the-art system that integrates mapping and analytical capabilities incorporating data from Census Bureau's TIGER System and data sent by states covered by the Voting Rights Act. This data is used by federal attorneys for litigation purposes when the Voting Right Act is presumed to be violated. As a Oracle DBA at Department of Justice Civil Right Division my responsibility of managing 24 Oracle Database Servers include the following:
- Performing database design and development for instances used in test, development and production environments.
- Installation of Oracle 10g and 11g on Sun Solaris (SPARC) and Windows platform.
- Create and configure Oracle databases using DBCA or manually by using scripts.
- Utilize Automatic Workload Repository (AWR) to generate snapshots of key performance data, such as time-model statistics, which shows you how long each database activity is taking and high-load-SQL statistics which aids in identifying resource-intensive SQL statements.
- Install Automatic Storage Management (ASM) using DBCA or Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) to provide automatic load balancing over all the available disk thus reducing hot spots in the file system, to prevent fragmentation and ease file management.
- Migrate existing databases to an ASM system using Database Control in addition to migrating database from Windows to Unix environment.
- Implement and maintain Oracle Dataguard Physical and Logical standby databases for disaster recovery. Ensure that standby database is always in sync with production database by checking archivelogs and copying missing ones over to the standby database when required.
- Established a backup and recovery strategy using daily hot backups, RMAN and weekly cold backups.
- Managing database security by creating and assigning appropriate roles and privileges to users depending on the user activity. In addition to using Oracle Advanced Security option such Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) - based directory service, such as Oracle Internet Directory (OID) to perform authentication.
- Configure Flashback database setting the necessary parameters and Flash Recovery Area, then using RMAN to issue Flash Recovery Commands.
- Loads, integrate and administer spatially enabled data using ESRI based products ArcSDE, ArcCatalog.
- Install and configure Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), dbconsole and Grid Control for Oracle 10g & 11g.
- Export/Import tables, schema and databases using Data Pump.
- Designed, tested, deployed and documented Oracle RAC databases procedures.
- Creating, relocating and removing services as needed in an oracle RAC configuration.
- Restructed the Oracle RAC configuration by adding and removing nodes along with resolving issues such as node evictions.
- Performed database maintenance by applying required patches and software updates.
- Work closely to support software and application developers in various system design tasks.
- Perform database migration from Oracle version 8i and 9i to 10g & 11g respectively.
- Cloning of production databases as needed for testing, development using RMAN or scripts.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation to comply with C & A requirements.
