Oracle Application Developer
At ESPN, the technology group I was part of, built and maintained the scheduling application suite which was an integral part of the on-air production services providing TV-programming information across various work groups that both produced and consumed this data. As such, the application suite's availability and accuracy was vital for the day-to-day functional needs of many work groups and had wide visibility. The application suite was completely written in Oracle Forms that had become very complex with multiple reference forms, several layers of stacked canvases, extensive use of tabbed canvases and multi-node navigation across these various screens. Moreover, since it used large historical, current and reference data-sets, the optimal performance of SQL queries and Oracle forms during runtime was vital.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, build new and maintain several complex Oracle forms as application screens.
- Maintain dependencies across referenced forms modules and consolidate internal code modules in reference forms.
- Maintain and develop several old and new Oracle reports and update the access control system.
- Develop stored procedures, functions and packages using PL/SQL implementing core business rules.
- Enhance old and develop new SQL queries feeding data to several informational screens and reports.
- Maintaining clear communication with the Team developers about assignments and inter-dependencies.
- Unit and regression testing and technical documentation of all deliverables.
- Preparedness of delivering as per production cycles following all procedures and obtaining required sign-offs.
- Prepare detailed documentation of modules/work done that is to be moved to production and work closely with the QA team to ensure accuracy of desired results.

Web Application Developer
Confidential took on an in-house development project for their client, Diamond Resorts International DRI and put together a web development team to build specific modules in collaboration with DRI's own development team. The project was to revamp an old reservation system to accommodate the growing needs and new practices of DRI. The modules that we were working with were to be operated by DRI's reservation specialists who would assist the guests in securing their reservations using this system this was in parallel to a guest-operated online reservation system being developed simultaneously by DRI's own team. There were several overlaps between the old system which was still in use as well as in the new systems being developed by the various teams hence it was of utmost importance to look-out for existing code as well as to build all-inclusive, extendable components when developing new. The biggest challenge was to avoid stepping on another developer's toe since parallel development effort was happening across the board.
Responsibilities:
- Requirements analysis and needs refinement in daily stand-up meetings with the client's Business Analysis BA group.
- Determination and conveying scope and timeline of deliverables updated every day.
- Validation of deliverables in conferences with the Quality Assurance QA and BA teams.
- Providing production support of various kinds including break-fixes, small/med/large enhancements, infrastructure and application/product upgrades.
- Developing stored procedures, functions and packages using PL/SQL implementing core business rules finding and reusing or revamping existing code or writing new code.
- Build new interactive web pages using Mod-plsql, JavaScript and JQuery, employing existing CSS templates and AJAX for dynamic data calls as well as common core business-logic in PL/SQL for inventory and accounting rules.
- Apply patches to the existing reservation system to accommodate high-priority new rules and practices.
- Maintaining clear communication with team leader and fellow developers about assignments and progress of common widgets and source control.
- Unit and regressing testing and test and technical documentation of all deliverables.
