Project: MIS Reporting

Project Description:

• NYK Line is one of the largest shipping companies in the world. NYK Group operates about 800 major ocean vessels, as well as fleets of planes, trains, and trucks. The company has offices in 240 locations in 27 countries. NYK is based in Tokyo and has regional headquarters in London, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sydney, and Sao Paulo. NSRI caters to NYK computerization needs.
• I am working in MIS project. The data extracted from Sybase is loaded into Oracle. The ETL tool being used is Oracle Data Integrator ELT architecture . COGNOS is the BI tool being used for reporting purpose. I am involved in developing the ETL applications for the different modules to populate the CDW and Marts. During this tenure I have worked in multiple development/ support/ enhancement projects which are listed below. Being technical lead and onsite coordinator for MIS team, I have been involved in requirement gathering, designing, developing, data modeling, code review, UAT and deployment of these projects.

Development Projects:

• SPEAR: This project allows NYK financial users globally to send Invoice and payments statements/ reminders to vendors through OSCAR. Before SPEAR implementation, regions used to have their own systems for this functionality and this system was designed to have a single system for all regions. OSCAR data is populated into MIS through Account Receivables module and a job is created runs every 10 minutes that gets these requests processed through MIS. Data is processed based upon control office/ customer and send to users email addresses using MIS master data through Cognos.
• Corporate Accounting Bridge TEU Mart/ Cube: This fact/ cube are built for NYK Japan to report monthly revenue generated against number of containers booked each month. This report gave higher management visibility of revenue generated across the system and provides access to compare revenue/ profit generated by each region.
• Net Contribution Fact/ Bridges: This fact/ data bridges are used by all regions NA, NE APAC to fetch details related to net profit against each BL Container. Data from OSCAR is taken as source along with multiple files for costs incurred against during course of BL Container and net contribution is calculated on a weekly basis. This data is then sent to regions as csv files through ODI bridges and is fed into diver systems of regions for processing.
• Eagle Project: This project is implemented to ftp through a secure connection NE file for Net contribution to Singapore. Various ODI utilities have been used for this implementation. Due to aggressive timelines of this project, I completed this development and UAT within 5 days.
• Latest Event Mart This mart/ cube are created to report latest event/ booking linked to a container/ genset/ chassis of NYK systems and gives user access to check status of each container at any moment. Frequency of this Mart execution is 4 hours and gives flexibility to users to plan for equipment movement on a short notice.
• Support Projects:
• Designing/ Tuning Shipment Cost Modules: Existing Shipment Cost modules execution timings were brought down to 30 by rewriting these jobs. Data from CSS was merged into staging Oracle tables every 10 minutes data maintained for 1 day , which is then used as source for data load into MIS. These jobs were also redesigned to execute in parallel as compared to serial execution thus giving desired performance improvement.
• Designing/ Tuning Daily Cost Mart: Due to huge data load, this job performance improvement was done by parallel processing data for different facts populates 3 facts along with redesigning knowledge modules by doing a minus query comparison by only loading updated data from source. Knowledge modules changes were made to move error handling from ODI to Oracle, thus reducing time on each step.
• Production Support: 24 7 Production support is provided by MIS team to resolve any job failures. SLA of 30 minutes is maintained to resolve any failure, so that there is minimal impact to users and subsequent jobs.
• Error Data Analysis Resolution: Error data is analyzed and appropriate resolutions are done to maintain data quality in MIS. These can be either data reprocessing, data correction from source or code changes in MIS.
