Confidential has two divisions i.e. Chemical and Engineering. This package was developed about 2 years ago for the chemical division. They wanted to implement the same system with some changes at the engineering division. There are 10 modules to be implemented. I am part of the 3 member team to study the existing system at the chemical plant, interact with the engineering users to know their existing workflow, analyze to find out the changes required in the old system, completed screen and database changes and implemented the system.
One point of contact for the team and was reporting on weekly basis to the client and project manager about any issues.

Project: Scottish Prison Services Duration: May’03 to Feb’04

The system was being developed for the Scottish Prison Service. The Prison Service keeps in safe custody all those who are required by Scottish law to be kept in prison. This system automates the Data capturing during admitting a prisoner and the processing and updating of this data for the duration of his stay in the prison. Records are also maintained for inmates who are on temporary absence or have been released.

System also caters for the following:
Activities: This is used to assign and organize activities across locations. Data is maintained about the prisoner as to which activity is assigned to him and also how well he fares in these activities.

Intelligence: Intelligence groups across locations were maintained to monitor any happenings in the prisons. Information passed is maintained in the system and linked to incidents or searches happened across locations.

Incidents: Data about incidents that have happened across locations is maintained in the system. These incidents could be fights amongst prisoners or some search done and weapons are found.

Medical Records: Medical record is a module wherein prisoners who are believed to be at the risk of harming themselves are monitored. For instance, a prisoner with a history of making threats to injure himself by jumping may be placed in a ground-floor cell. Similarly, the system will record which items a prisoner may not be permitted to have, such as belts, shoelaces or razors, as they may harm themselves with these items.

Finance: This module deals with the finance aspect of the prisoners.
Sources of finance for prisoners include:
Cheques/Cash from the prisoner on admission to prison.
Cashable cheques that prisoners receive from relatives of other third parties while they are in prison.
Wages earned by prisoners, while in prison by participating in a variety of activities (e.g. carpentry, etc.). Newly admitted prisoners with no access to money may be provided with an advance to allow them to purchase goods such as telephone cards and cigarettes.

The CRB system (CRB-Capita Business Services (UK)) was developed for Criminal Records Bureau, an executive agency of Home office, UK. Mastek was one of the several suppliers involved in the project, other suppliers being Oracle Corp., eLoyalty, Logica, I3IT, Cable & Wireless, etc.
The CRB system is a set of business processes designed to provide a Disclosure Certificate to an individual applying for a job in an organisation. This Certificate provides the prospective employer relevant information about the eligibility (as in the applicant has no criminal records) of the applicant to the job applied for. The system is designed and developed with Oracle CRM at its core. The system has secure interfaces with Police National Computer (PNC), Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and Department of Health (DoH). Along with the programmer/analyst role, responsibility included making software releases at client locations.
This was a critical project to Mastek since it dealt with more of secure data and the firm had to compete with other service providers. The time frames set for the releases were strict and penalties were set if delivery dates were not met.

Responsibilities:
Managing impact analysis of CR’s, development of complex code, program specifications, preparation of release scripts and release notes.

This project for HDFC Ltd., Mumbai, India involved conversion of existing system with character-based forms to a GUI based system. The task dealt with converting old character based forms which used to run batch jobs from within the forms. This module gave the user options to view, mail or print the output files, log files and to view the job commands. The other service providers were TCS, Akshay Software, Princeton and Kumaran Systems.

Project Consolidation Duration: Dec’00 to Feb’01

This project for HDFC Ltd., Mumbai, India involved consolidating the data from two different databases into a third one after doing necessary data cleansing. The work also included writing of generic scripts (dynamic SQL) to identify duplicate column values across different databases and reporting them in the form of an SQL plus report, finally to update it to a new value and storing the old value for further usage. The corrected data from the two databases were then copied into the third database.

This project was developed for client Lynx Financial Systems, Leeds (UK). An existing system at Lynx Financial Systems in which new modules was added as part of releases. Role involved being part of the development team and also had support work responsibilities after the system went live. The client for LFS was BMW cars (Germany). The system included modules for stock, credit, and banking. For instance, the Stock module deals with the stock of cars BMW showrooms have in possession.

Overseeing the development of CreditFolio, which deals the credit aspect of the system; involving the crediting aspect of a deal i.e. if any loans are given to the customer at the time the customer is buying a car and Banking deals with the managing the money transactions between the dealer, the customer and BMW.

The package is designed to take care of the admission details of the patient, his prescription and doctor details. This package also entertains inquiries by the visitors regarding their patients, the doctors & the services offered by the hospital. Report facility is provided to display the doctor’s fee over a period, ward wise income over a period, income of the lab and OT over a period. Report facility is provided to monitor the patient’s condition during his stay in the hospital.

This project was developed for Suvidhya Library, Pune. The features of this system included a menu driven application with subject-wise listing of book names, view-ability of copy details of books, password protection facility.
The system only allows the librarian to insert or update records in the database. It also keeps track of members who break the rules of the library and lists them in a particular table, which helps in collecting damage charges from them. The report facilities of the system include giving a list of issues which have exceeded their due date along with member names and the due charges.

This system was developed to fully atomize the manual work of the hotel. It also maintained a database of the guest details, for better service and future usage. This system comprised of 3 modules: Room Reservation module, Payroll module, Expenses module. The Room Reservation module dealt with the procedures and the formalities a hotel undergoes when customer makes a room reservation. The reporting facilities of the module included listing of rates of different classes of rooms, the room’s reservation list and the waiting list. The Payroll module dealt with managing the payroll activities of the employees working the hotel. The expenses module dealt with keeping track of the expenditures incurred to the hotel.
