Work Experience
Confidential Temecula, CA, 3/2002—Present
Principal Database Consultant responsible for project database administration and architecture. Selected clients include University of Phoenix, Orange County Transportation Authority, Intuit,Yahoo, US Army, Riverside County Sheriff, Sport Chalet, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Golden State Water, and Network Fleet.
- At the University of Phoenix I led a team of three DBAs in the redesign of the university’s disaster recovery, high availability and data security infrastructure. This included presenting and justifying project plans based on industry best practices to executive management, working with storage and systems teams to deliver a highly scalable and resilient architecture, migrating 35 Oracle 10g and 11g RAC databases totaling 70TB to a new datacenter, configuring Data Guard and Golden Gate to manage data replication, and implementing and configuring Oracle Advanced Security features to protect sensitive student and company data. The environment included the largest implementation of the Peoplesoft Financial Aid module.
- For Attensity Group, I was responsible for assessing the database design of the company’s social media data mining product, which runs on Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and Teradata. I was successful in improving database ETL performance benchmarks by 91%.
- I designed the physical and logical data models for the Oracle 10g RAC database and data warehouses supporting the America’s Army video game used by the US Army Office of Economic and Manpower Analysis for focusing recruiting efforts. In five years on the project I exceeded all performance and availability service level agreements (SLAs). In addition, I developed all of the supporting PL/SQL code responsible for processing game events, and detecting cheating and hacking attempts made against the game. Mining data from the tens of millions of combat simulations reveale d insights for adjusting real-world tactics for improved survival of US forces in actual combat situations.
- I manage the MySQL databases for Argentive supporting content management systems (CMS) such as Joomla and Drupal.
- At the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department I implemented Oracle 10g RAC and Data Guard for their 911 emergency call center. This included migrating existing databases from Oracle 9i and providing documentation for their internal staff.
- For Election Source, I designed the MySQL databases and PHP framework of a Software as a Service (SaaS) application used by political candidates to direct limited campaign resources to individuals who are most likely to vote. One key factor in the product’s success was an automated ETL process for extracting voter information from public records provided by state and county voting offices.
- I provided pre-sales technical services for Solix, whose data archiving technology for Oracle E-Business Suite allow companies to minimize costs via tiered storage, keeping historical data available to applications.
- At Intuit, I developed, tested and documented disaster recovery procedures for their Oracle and SQL Server databases.
- For Yahoo, I configured and administered the Oracle databases used by the FIFA World Cup Soccer e-commerce sites.
