I worked in a team of 5 Oracle, 2 SQL Server and 7 DB2 DBA which maintain well known products like people Soft, Retek - inventory management, Glovia - Accounting software, Account4 – time management, Remedy – problem case management as well as Manugistic – Logistics & Distribution Center Replenishment system on Oracle, JDA’s IKB and Tequila software’s Retail Lease and Avaya’s Explorer on the SQL Server.

Our Team manages more than 6000 weekly jobs scheduled to provide a prompt and up-to-date data across all systems. These jobs were maintained using Tivoli Work Scheduler (TWS), UNIX CRON as well as AUTOSYS. Created custom reports to fit business requirements and maintained seven terra (7) bytes of data alone in the Oracle DBMS by authoring and maintaining shell scripts with embedded PLSQL, SQL. Additionally, I provided expert support for MSSQL to maintain data for the DOT com side of the business.

Key Projects & Achievements:

  • LEAD DBA FOR Workbrain implementation: I worked as a lead DBA for the rollout of Workbrain labor scheduling package for 5000 stores comprising up to 55000 employees. The project phase 1 has been rolled out to 600 stores. Remaining store go online in September 2006.
  • Implementation of Workbrain time and labor management application project warranted my involvement in the design phase, alpha (50 stores), beta (200 stores) and phase 1 (1000) roll out of the application and finally the 2nd phase, which was the final rollout to rest of 4000 stores.
  • As a lead DBA I worked with various business analysts, system analysts and developers to design interface with HR/payroll/Benefits, Sales channel, Store operations and financials systems for the workbrain application databases. The integration involved hooks into People soft HR, Payroll, Benefits and AP databases as well as hooks into RETEK and sales DB2 databases.
  • Also worked with Data analyst to logical data model customization and physical data modeling changes.
  • I created 6 database environments for the workbrain application. Implemented backup and recovery, replication and maintenance methodology for workbrain databases and most important the SOX compliance procedures and standards.
  • Worked directly with workbrain corporation to iron out bugs because Radioshack was one of the first few companies in North America to implement Workbrain time and attendance package.
  • Designed and implemented reporting databases and helped configure the application, webservers and reporting servers.
  • On my advice after the phase 1 rollout, Management decided to move labor scheduling Oracle databases from Windows to HPUX due to performance and backup and recovery infra structure issues.
  • The Workbrain databases are in production for over 1 year without any issues.
  • People Soft AR upgrade: Upgraded the database environment from 8.1.6 to 9.2.0.6. Currently working on upgrading the PS Application tools upgrade to 8.9 from 7.6.
  • Database upgrade: Earlier this year I have upgraded several Oracle databases from Oracle 9i to 10.0.2.1. At the same time upgraded several SQL server 7.0 and 2000 databases to 2005.
  • Also working in lead DBA capacity for the corporation wide rollout of Leaning Management system application rollout for the corporation on SQL Server platform. This is an application package consolidates 3 existing databases on Oracle and SQL server. Alpha roll out to corporate expected on 14 August 2006. Complete rollout will occur in January 2007.
  • Upgraded RMAN catalogs database on HPUX to 10G from 9i.
  • Developed and implemented RMAN database recovery software using HITACHI SAN.
  • Radioshack Canada: Installed, configured SQL server environment for Solomon suite of applications. (now called Microsoft Dynamics). Also, incorporated the merchandising portion of the rollout into RETEK on Oracle.
  • Sam’s Club kiosk acquisition: This SQL server/Oracle project was to single handedly move a newest acquisition of Radio shack corporation called Sam’s Club Kiosks (a Cellular phone retailer company ) in less than 2 months. This project involved over 300 GB of databases, 80 sql server databases and 6 Oracle databases. 3 HPUX servers and 36 Windows database servers. Project cost $8 Million.(3/18/05).
  • Authored database management, audit and security procedures for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance under corporate governance. (2004)
  • Provided up to the minute data for the general ledger (GL) by implementing replication process across different DBMS data sources.(2000)
  • Served as lead DBA for some high profile projects like RS On-line – a systems specifically designed to cater the need of our 5000 company stores, Franchised Showcase Convention backend DBMS system for the collection and replenishment of more then $80 million worth. (2001)
