Responsibilities:

  • All duties pertained to I&E on location including / not limited to load calculations, troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of Motor Control Centers (MCC), transformers, motors, switches, lighting, HV switchgear, circuit breaker panels, Variable Speed Drives, sensors, and all conduit and cabling; installation, configuration, and calibration of 4 - 20mA loop instruments including temperature transmitters and controllers, flow meters, pressure transmitters, and differential level transmitters, auto valves, including loop controlled proportional valves, and high level sensing probes.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of rig electrical crew performing installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and PM of all drilling rig electrical equipment and instrumentation including diesel powered generators, Mud Pumps, MCC, instruments, etc.
  • Supervision, installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and PM of all electrical equipment and instrumentation pertaining to the drilling rig and rig camp. Supervised / assigned work orders to four native Electricians. Rig was AC powered of cantilever design built by Confidential .
  • Top drive was a Varco TDS-11. M&I Electric in Houston designed and built the MCC and VFD houses containing Eaton FX9000 VFDs through 1500HP, and Cutler Hammer switchgear and control components, which were powered by five Caterpillar diesel generator sets of just under 1,000 KW each.
  • Drill control was a semi-cyber system, microprocessor controlled using a Windows XP computer and PLC units from Allen-Bradley and Wago, with A-B touch screen control communicating over TCP-IP and Profibus.
  • Draw works was Confidential driven by two 1000 HP AC motors, as were the triplex mud pumps. Other equipment included mud pits with agitators and transfer pumps with motors in the 10HP to 75HP ranges.
