Fuel Tank Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Workers in this position clean, seal, close and test integral fuel tanks on aircraft on aircraft per drawings and specifications.
  • They may also seal exterior wing surfaces and perform assembly work, as required.
  • This position will require working in confined spaces of the wing fuel cells and crawling through order to get inside the fuel cell. also requires lifting less crouching, lying down, standing, kneeling, reaching, climbing/balancing, flexion/extension, contact with sealants and solvents, exposure to noise, working on elevated platforms and the use of personal safety gear for face, eyes, hand/arm, and ears.

  • Install fuel tank closure panels or access doors and fuel quantity measuring stick after all necessary steps are complete and accepted by QA and customer.
  • Perform/assist with leak tests on fuel tanks and test fuel vent systems. Submit completed job or in-process checks to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence for acceptance or rejection.
  • Apply aerodynamic seal to skin gaps on leading edge and trailing edge panel gaps. Position tool for locating vortex generators on upper panel and apply faying surface seal to base of generator and position on wing per tool. Perform rework as required per Pick Up, Special Repair, Rejection Tag, Non-Conformance Record, or other authorized instructions.
