  • Created DDL for new Oracle tables and data-model modifications. Performed major conversions, data-transformations and migrations for the IDEA system that supported the engineering department in the creation of Power Generation Plants.
  • Key deliverables include a generic workflow engine that was needed for one project, but ultimately used for four different business workflows. Each new workflow required very little coding effort because of the way that the work-flow engine was designed. The work-flow rules were designed to be data driven which allowed Siemens to change quickly with the business while keeping development costs and risk to a minimum. Utilized Oracle procedures and table driven workflows maximizing separation of concerns between the business rules and the graphical interface. Created numerous interfaces and workflows while refining the design so that each took less time and had fewer defects. Other notable accomplishments include creation of NVO's for various SAP interfaces and BAPI's via OCX controls. Worked with SAP developer to create custom BAPI and convert many manual processes or nightly interfaces to real-time interfaces.
  • Re-designed one the largest PowerBuilder applications while working as sole developer. Handled all production support, mainteneance, enhancements and new development. The mission critical system, IDEA was responsible for assisting the engineering department take a new power plant from concept to completion. The SAP BAPI interfaces eliminated the need to manually create purchase requisitions in SAP and upon approval of purchaseable items the PR was created automatically. Interfaced with SAP in real-time to tie purchase orders to requisitions in real-time as the items were final-approved by the buyer. The workflow process greatly reduced manual effort making Siemens more competitive in the market-place while increasing internal customer satisfaction, and minimizing liquidated damages resulting from missed deadlines.
  • Assumed sole responsibility for the redesign of the MDL process of IDEA. The redesign required a major three-day data-conversion to occur over the Thanksgiving holiday and required a contingency plan should the migration fail. Performed user-training of the new features, handled the creation of DDL for database changes and SQL updates needed to implement new features. The MDL redesign was one of the defining projects of my tenure at Siemens, and was a huge success in all aspects. The redesign improved user satisfaction by reducing window open times from 30-45 seconds to less than five seconds, it also greatly reduced trouble-ticket calls that occurred as a result of the poor design of the system before the re-write. The new MDL system allowed Siemens to request changes to the process without risk of breaking the application due to the redesign which utilized Object Oriented Design techniques such as encapsulation inheritance.
  • Assumed responsibility for Plant Design module a complex PowerBuilder 11 application. The application was used to read the database of the CAD tool and locate design conflicts that the CAD tools were not able to do themselves.
