Sas Analytics Practice Manager Resume
I’m a leading Boston-area predictive modeling guru with over 8 years of experience modeling and managing analytical development teams across a full spectrum of mathematical technologies and industries. I’m founder of the firm that ranks #1 on Google for “Predictive Modeling in Boston.” I am a certified SAS Programmer and certified SAS Predictive Modeler using Enterprise Miner. I also frequently present on predictive modeling in R. My greatest achievement was leading a multi-department, multi-institutional effort to construct a novel medical malpractice Enterprise Risk Management prototype usingSAS Enterprise Miner with custom coding for data mining models, SAS/STAT for statistical distribution computations, and Enterprise Guide for report generation.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Confidential, LLC 2010 - Present
Founder
- Developed data mining models (GLMs and neural networks) to predict marketing targets for direct mail campaigns. ~16% of the prospect list yielded results expected by mailing the full list.
- Crowd-sourcing Technology Firm – Developed predictive & customer segmentation models (decision trees and GLMs) using web & salesforce.com data. Used text mining (term-document matrices with term roll-up) of web content to achieve ~50% more lift in predicting lead qualification.
- $6-Billion/yr Wall Street Finance. 1-year contract for production quant development using SAS/Base, SAS/STAT, SAS/GRAPH, R, Python, and Unix Shell Scripting in portfolio risk analytics. Contributions included reading and interpreting risk model specifications, writing production-level code to implement risk models into product, & collaborating on quality control with the goal of releasing fantastic risk analytics product.
- Founded Data Mining for Marketers – a Cambridge-based meetup (meetup.com) focused on analytics in marketing. Currently 200+ members. Most of my talks have received 5/5 stars by experts.
- Currently presenting on text mining of social media to track national sentiment towards political campaigns. Use K-nearest neighbor algorithms.
Confidential. 2007 – 2010
SAS Analytics Practice Manager
- Helped build new SAS analytics department for 18-year old data consulting firm and helped lead it to achieving an approximate 1,350% increase in net revenue as measured between July 2007 and December 2009.
- Notable Contracts
- One of NY tri-state area’s Largest Malpractice Insurers: Working aside the VP and Chief Actuary of a large malpractice insurer, designed a novel medical malpractice Enterprise Risk Management System prototype in SAS. Used SAS Enterprise Miner, SAS/STAT, SAS/GRAPH, Enterprise Guide. Components built:
- Solution to predict probability of a physician making a mistake over the next year using parameter driven processes. Registered stored processes (parameterized macros) via Management Console.
- Solution to instantly price custom insurance products using simulation theory. Estimate reducing pricing time from 1 full actuarial day down to 7 seconds per request.
- Integrated Enterprise Miner with stored processes created from SAS code in two directions. Embedded Enterprise Miner models into Enterprise Guide nodes and SAS stored processes into Enterprise Miner.
- MA-Based Malpractice Insurer: Provided statistical training and led overhaul of SAS analytical modeling environment to support prediction of clinicians at-risk of malpractice in an entire MA-based Medical System. Provided training on switching from legacy code to Enterprise Guide.
- National Healthcare Regulatory Agency: Oversaw implementation of server-based Base SAS / Stat / Graph to support analysis and monitoring of healthcare data across the US.
- State Healthcare Contractor: Developed analytical reports to monitor CMS healthcare performance metrics for regulatory submission.
- Long-term Care Analysis Firm: Managed development of SAS Business Intelligence to support health risk forecasting and pricing. Designed SAS stored processes solution that reduced client pricing response time from 3 days down to less than 4 minutes by streaming simulation results into formatted reports for immediate dispersal to clients. Leveraged SAS ODS and SAS Add-in for MS to create PDFs and PowerPoints.
- Major RI Health Insurer: Led assessment and delivered report to guide the development of a new medical analytics department that uses predictive models to ensure consistent delivery of services and identification of high-risk members and providers.
- Direct Marketing Firm: Led SAS VDD implementation/ consulting to run enterprise mail order operation. Provided statistical guidance for estimating value of marketing campaign targets.
- Nationally-Recognized Newspaper: Managed implementation of multi-machine SAS Enterprise Miner installation and configuration on Solaris to support prediction of subscribers at-risk for not paying. Configured SAS Management Console to optimize multi-tier environment.
- Served as pre-sales engineer and lead on eight major consulting accounts, with 5/8 yielding repeat business.
- Lead designer of analytical demonstrations focused on SAS Enterprise Miner & Text Miner. Approved SAS Demo-er.
- Led 2008 Healthcare Analytics Conference at the SAS office in Boston’s Prudential Center. Co-presented with late industry-pioneer Dr. Patricia Cerrito on applications of text mining.
- Presenter at the 2008 BASUG meeting on predictive modeling. As a result of my presentation and demonstration of how to use text mining of clinician notes to predict patient outcomes, I was subsequently invited to speak as a guest at HESUG and Ingenix to audiences that exceeded 100 international analysts.
- Speaker at the 2008 New England Statistics Symposium and the 2008 New England Healthcare Analytics Conference.
Confidential. 2005 – 2007
Director of Data Analytics
- Collaboratively led company from unknown with no clients to an emerging global provider of hospitality forecasting solutions in less than two years with clients that include Hyatt International, Sheraton, Starwood, Pan Pacific, etc.
- Founded & managed US East-Coast office in Bedford, NH. Oversaw proposals, implementations, and publications. As the result of a financial turn-around made possible, in part, by our forecasting technology, the Pan Pacific Hotel in San Francisco, CA sold for $95 million just three years after its purchase for $45 million.
