PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Confidential, Monrovia, CA

Principal Technical Writer

Responsibilities:

  • Converted legacy Sun Microsystems documents from HTML files into structured FrameMaker, updated the old documents working closely with the engineers to ensure that all obsolete documentation was rewritten to current Oracle standards or removed.
  • Delivered all documentation on deadline under a very tight schedule, which included changing Sun online topics into chapter format for the delivery.
  • Learned how to use all the Oracle tools for completing the delivery (PDF and HTML) for delivery on a media pack and in an online library, including the entire archiving process (the most difficult being mastering structured FrameMaker while working in a shortened delivery cycle).
  • Again as the lone writer working on OHMPI v2.0, the first full delivery that was not dependent upon updating outdated Sun information but was based upon updating Oracle’s OHMPI product documentation suite to release specifications. This included an increased document count from 13 to 18 documents (5 were brand new guides, including a provider index and three Confidential t solution user’s guides).
  • This delivery included additional IHE Profiles in conjunction with native HL7 v2 and v3 messaging and transport standards, Oracle WebLogic Server fixes, Chinese localization in Mainland China, and a revamped Master Index Data Manager (MIDM) which is a GUI tool used to create and setup a healthcare master person index. Again worked closely with engineers, a quality engineer, and management to complete the delivery.
  • Totally rewrote the Data Manager User’s Guide while using and learning the product on my computer and then commenting on the revamped GUI that made former Sun product user friendly.
  • Updated and edited existing documentation, and wrote new documentation, completing reviews as I updated and created for the simple reason that there would be no time for an official review cycle in which the engineers could perform in a timely manner.
  • Created and delivered patches and patch sets related to the OHMPI v1.1 delivery in a timely manner during the OHMPI v2.0 delivery cycle.
  • Delivered the entire documentation suite on deadline, including creating the online library and archiving the documentation.

Confidential, Burbank, CA

Senior Technical Writer

Responsibilities:

  • Learned and tested Data Mashup and then created documentation for a new delivery medium, the Wiki, and delivered it on deadline despite a reduced development schedule by working closely with management and engineers in India.
  • Led the Java Composite Application Platform Suite 6 (Java CAPS) Doc Team that successfully delivered HTML topics to the Sun Developer Network (SDN) website on deadline by addressing the problem that the software used to create the delivery files changed from FrameMaker to ArborText Editor (Epic) during a tight delivery schedule.
  • Improved the look and feel of the product by identifying bugs in the graphical user interface (GUI) and supplying design and text changes to management and engineering.
  • Increased the writers' available time to complete a total revamping of the documentation delivery process and learn the new tools required for the delivery by initiating the removal of emergency software releases (ESRs) from their workload.
  • Researched and analyzed how documentation was created in the past and restructured how it would be delivered in the future by teaming with writers locally and remotely.
  • Saved the Java CAPS 5.1.3 delivery by ensuring that the entire documentation set delivered on deadline when a manager left and wasn’t replaced. Led the Doc Team, scheduled deadlines, and met with product, program, and engineering management on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Prevented ESRs from not delivering on a daily and weekly basis by assuming the added responsibility of researching and assigning them to the Doc Team and resolving problems with development.
  • Salvaged Java CAPS product trouble tickets from not making it into the documentation delivery by assuming the added responsibility of researching and assigning them to a reduced team of six writers.

  • Averted a delayed California document delivery by assigning writing projects to the writing and editorial staff in Herndon, Virginia, when the writing workload became unmanageable in El Segundo.
  • Prevailed in replacing Microsoft Word with Adobe FrameMaker when Word couldn’t handle the massiveness of the ISIS documentation by convincing management that the change was necessary.
